At the Medical Department in Vejle we offer an introductory position in a strong professional environment with a culture characterized by high well-being, helpfulness and focus on education. Several of our former training doctors return to the department, and we see this as a sign that both the educational and the work environment work well.

Training doctors particularly highlight the respectful tone, the safety of asking questions and the opportunity to discuss difficult issues with colleagues.

There are specialists on rounds in all wards every day, and all outpatient clinics have dedicated supervisors. We prioritize that you always have the opportunity for sparring and supervision close to daily clinical life.

An individually tailored program

All introductory doctors receive a main supervisor, and we encourage supervisor conversations every month or every other month.

Your progression is planned with you and adapted to your professional interests and career plans. You typically rotate between 2-3 of the following specialties:

• Pulmonary medicine
• Gastroenterology and hepatology
• Rheumatology
• Hematology

The rotation plan can be adjusted along the way if your interests develop.

Your daily life

You gain experience with both acute and chronic medical patients through work in wards, outpatient clinics and on-call duties.

Depending on your competencies you participate in the on-call and later in the middle-shift with joint on-call with the Cardiology Department. The night backup is available on call. We expect you to gradually develop independence and take an active part in clinical decision-making. At the same time there is always the possibility for supervision and sparring as needed.

Procedures, ultrasound and competency development

We prioritise that you as an introductory doctor have the opportunity to develop both clinical and practical competencies.

All introductory doctors are trained in ultrasound-guided procedures, including pleural and ascites drainage. You will have the opportunity to participate in procedures with experienced colleagues and build competencies that give you greater independence as you progress

As an introductory doctor you participate among other things in

• daily morning teaching
• monthly journal club
• monthly simulation-based team training
• clinical supervision of medical students and junior doctors

There is the possibility for development within all seven doctor roles, including teaching, quality development, leadership and research.

Career and research

The introductory position provides a solid foundation for further training in internal medicine. Several of our introductory doctors subsequently continue in the main specialization.

You gain experience with acute and chronic medical patients, ward rounds, outpatient work, on-call duties and practical procedures under supervision.

Active research is carried out within all department's specialties, and introductory doctors with research interest can get help with project ideas and guidance.

About the department

The Medical Department covers the specialties

• Pulmonary medicine
• Gastroenterology and hepatology
• Rheumatology
• Hematology

In addition the department participates in assessment and treatment of patients in the Emergency Department, Diagnostic Center and Center for Functional Disorders.

The department has just under 6,000 acute admissions, about 62,000 outpatient contacts annually and 63 beds.

We have about 40 specialists, including two professors, and around 35 training doctors at all levels of training.

Salary and employment terms

Employment is conducted in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between Danish Regions and the Danish Medical Association.
