About the job

Would you like to work with psychotherapy, psychological screenings and escort assessments in the world's largest humanitarian organization? Then you have the opportunity to apply for this exciting position as a psychologist based at the Holmegaard asylum center on Langeland.

This is a permanent position at 30 hours per week. The positions have a clinical psychology focus, primarily in the form of individual conversations, pathways and screenings of asylum seekers. We are looking for a psychologist who is broadly clinically and theoretically grounded in relation to conversations with children, young people, adults and families.

Short about us

The Danish Red Cross asylum department currently runs six asylum centers across the country, where we offer a range of services to residents, including health and psychology services, social and educational offerings, teaching and activities for both children and adults. We also carry out tasks at Udrejsecenter Sjælsmark in Hørsholm and Udrejsecenter Kærshovedgård in Ikast, which are operated by Denmark's Prisons.

Here you can read more about our tasks and centers.

Our overarching tasks are to give asylum seekers a safe, meaningful and dignified everyday life with a focus on the future while they stay under the Red Cross umbrella.

Our tasks in the Psychology Unit

The Psychology Unit currently consists of twelve psychologists, an administrative coordinator and a psychology professional leader. All psychologists are authorized under the Authorization Scheme as of 1.1.2026, all except two with Practical Training, and we have specialists in clinical child psychology, psychotherapy, supervision and psychotraumatology.

We handle a range of tasks aimed at asylum seekers, including screening, assessment and treatment tasks in relation to children, young people and adults who live with serious consequences after fleeing, torture, war and persecution, loss, broken relationships and waiting-time stress. We work with interpreters when needed. In addition we have staff psychologists who perform tasks relating to employees in the asylum department.

The unit's psychologists have methodological freedom, but will as far as possible be trained in EMDR. We are in the process of implementing NET - Narrative Exposure Therapy.

The psychologists participate in interdisciplinary cooperation meetings where relevant, and can take part in various projects and activities. Some psychologists teach staff in conflict management and psychological first aid.

As our upcoming colleague, your primary place of work will be the Holmegaard asylum center on Langeland - currently the only psychologist at the center. Because we operate nationwide, you can however expect tasks at other centers.
