The Diocese of Copenhagen seeks a cemetery consultant

The Diocese of Copenhagen is seeking a cemetery consultant with start on 1 January 2027. The position is fixed-term for 4 years and expires on 31 December 2030.

The position is a secondary occupation.

The country’s cemeteries are green spaces where cultural heritage, nature and life stories meet. We are seeking a cemetery consultant who understands this interplay and will actively contribute to the development of the cemeteries.

Profile

We expect you to be educated as a landscape architect from the Faculty of Life Sciences for Food, Veterinary Medicine and Natural Resources, the Royal Danish Academy – School of Architecture, Aarhus School of Architecture, or to have an equivalent approved education.

Responsibilities

The tasks involveAdvice and guidance to the diocese, deanery, or parish councils about the Church of Denmark’s cemeteries and their immediate surroundings, including:

· Establishment and expansion of cemeteries

· Interior arrangement of cemeteries including operations management, development and conservation planning

· Expansion or external renovations of buildings on cemeteries

· Construction, expansion and external alteration or sale of cemetery-adjacent buildings for use by the church and cemetery or the pastor’s office

· Working environment for the cemetery’s employees

· Classification of cemeteries

· Increase of biodiversity and sustainability as well as reduction of CO₂ emissions and other environmental, climate and biodiversity measures.

As a cemetery consultant you will, upon request, provide statements in cases concerning the above.

You should also provide advice and guidance to parish councils and cemetery boards upon request.

The cemetery consultant also participates in the diocese’s consultant rounds, where we visit cemeteries in the diocese where a parish council has wishes or plans for a project. During the consultant rounds the project is discussed with the parish council, and the cemetery consultant applies their expertise together with the diocese’s other consultants. There are approximately 4 consultant rounds per year.

Practical information

As a cemetery consultant you act as an advisor to the church authorities according to the rules in:

· The Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs’ Executive Order no. 955 of 6 October 2009 on the Church of Denmark’s consultants ,

· The Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs’ Circular no. 9779 of 6 October 2009 on the common instruction for the Church of Denmark’s consultants

· Guidance no. 9789 of 6 October 2009 on the Church of Denmark’s consultants

The above regulatory framework is expected to be updated in relation to the obligation to provide advice on environmental, climate and biodiversity measures.

It is important to note that you as a cemetery consultant must not undertake project design tasks for parish councils within the diocese you are employed in, unless the diocese exceptionally approves it.

Remuneration

The remuneration as of 1 January 2026

· Advisory cases in accordance with § 8 in Circular No. 9779 of 6 October 2009 on the common instruction for the Church of Denmark’s consultants: 1,236 DKK per hour.

· Declarations in accordance with § 7, sec. 1, in Circular No. 9779 of 6 October 2009 on the common instruction for the Church of Denmark’s consultants: 1,854 DKK per declaration.

The remuneration is supplemented with 12.5% holiday allowance, while no VAT is to be added.

Rates are adjusted annually on 1 January.
