Viborg Diocese seeks a cemetery consultant

Viborg Stift seeks a cemetery consultant with start on January 1, 2027. The position is fixed-term for 4 years and expires on December 31, 2030.

The position is a supplementary/side job.

The country’s cemeteries are green spaces where cultural heritage, nature and life stories meet. We are looking for a cemetery consultant who understands this interaction and will actively contribute to the development of the cemeteries.

Profile

We expect you to be educated as a landscape architect from the Faculty of Life Sciences, Veterinary Medicine and Natural Resources, The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture, Aarhus School of Architecture, or to hold an equivalent approved education.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include providing advice and guidance to the diocese, deanery or parish council about the Church of Denmark's cemeteries and their immediate surroundings, including:

• construction and expansion of cemeteries
• interior design of cemeteries, including operations management, development and conservation planning
• expansion or external renovations of buildings on cemeteries
• construction, expansion and external renovation or sale of cemetery-adjacent buildings for use by the church and the cemetery or the parish priest’s office
• occupational safety for the cemetery staff
• categorization of cemeteries

As a cemetery consultant you shall, upon request, provide statements in cases concerning the above.

You should also provide advice and guidance to parish councils and cemetery boards that request it.

The cemetery consultant also participates as needed in the diocese’s consultant rounds, where we, among other things, visit cemeteries in the diocese where a parish council has wishes or plans for a project. At the consultant rounds, the project is discussed with the parish council, and the cemetery consultant applies their professional expertise together with the diocese’s other consultants. Approximately 4 consultant rounds are held per year.

The practical

As a cemetery consultant you act as an advisor to the church authorities under the rules in:

Note that the regulations and circulars may change before and during the employment period.

It is important to note that as a cemetery consultant you must not undertake design tasks for parish councils within the diocese you are employed in, unless the diocese unusually approves it.

Remuneration

The remuneration as of January 1, 2026

• Advisory matters in accordance with § 8 of circular no. 9779 of October 6, 2009 on the common instruction for the Church of Denmark’s consultants: 1,236 kr. pr . hour.
• Declarations matters in accordance with § 7, sec. 1, in circular no. 9779 of October 6, 2009 on the common instruction for the Church of Denmark’s consultants: 1,854 DKK per declaration.

The remuneration is plus holiday allowance of 12.5%, while VAT is not applicable.

The rates are adjusted annually on January 1.
