About the job

We have a position available for 27-30 hours per week

Roskilde is an exciting university town in ongoing development and expansion. The city, despite its close proximity to Copenhagen, has a clear independent profile as a cultural entrepreneurial city with a strong focus on the music life with institutions such as Roskilde Festival, the regional singing power center ”Roskilde Synger”, Roskilde Cathedral's choir school, the concert venue Gimle, two local music associations, the Church Music College and Roskilde Cathedral's own concerts.

The parish council places high value on the cathedral's music life and supports the music financially – both for church services and concerts. There is a large and lively music life and a well-founded choir school with teaching in singing, piano and ear training.

For the vacant position, an organist is sought who can maintain their own high professional level and has a sense of collaboration and an interest in contributing to developing a church musical life in the 21st century. The parish council expects qualifications at the highest level regarding concert playing and liturgical playing.

The liturgical duties include high masses, prayers, evening hymns, thematic services, ordinations, church actions, services for Roskilde Diocese, services in cooperation with local associations, organizations and institutions, and finally Roskilde Cathedral is the royal house's funeral church. The organist will be the primary accompanist for the Boys' Choir and the Children's & Junior Choir. The concert life in the Cathedral is extensive and well attended.

At the Cathedral, in addition to the posted position, there is a cathedral organist who is the leader of the music area and a 2nd and 3rd organist. The Cathedral Choir consists of 12 church choir singers. Roskilde Cathedral's choir school consists of a children's and junior choir, a girls' choir with a girls' choir conductor (60%) and a boys' choir with a boys' choir conductor (80%). In addition there is an Adult Choir.

The staff of the Cathedral parish (churches and cemeteries) (approximately 60) have a good, collegial collaboration. The parish has a group of 6 priests.

The planning of the daily work and the Cathedral's concert activities takes place in good dialogue between the church's organists and cantors with the cathedral organist as the senior responsible to the cathedral's priests and the parish council.
