About the job

Are you an experienced musician, and do you have a passion for playing in one of the Defence's professional military bands?

Then you may be our future colleague. We are looking for a horn player (hornist) in the Prince’s Music Corps with a start date of 1 March 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

About us

The Prince’s Music Corps comprises 16 professional musicians and is an orchestra of very high calibre. The musicians are all conservatory trained, and the rotating conductors and soloists are among Europe’s most respected. The Prince’s Music Corps is based in its own music house at Skive Garrison, from which the corps tours military and civilian concerts and events across the country and occasionally abroad.

About the position

The main tasks of the position are service to the Royal Household, service to the Defence, and public concerts.

We place emphasis on open and constructive dialogue - between staff and management.

The corps has a broad and highly varied repertoire. It is expected that you have a great musical flexibility and genre understanding. You shall contribute to giving the group stability and versatility, and contribute to the musical development of the corps through your musical competencies.

About you

You are, as a rule, conservatory trained on horn or have another professional musical background at a comparable level. As a person, you are innovative, flexible, and have good collaborative skills.

You thrive with responsibility; your professionalism and empathetic approach to work make you a musician and colleague who is adept at joining both musically and socially in the music corps.

As a musician in the Danish Defence, you have the opportunity to function as a deputy conductor, staff baton, and participate in producer-, PR-, and programming committee work. You should also be able to participate in the occupational health and safety committee as well as other committees attached to the orchestra.

Employment procedure

The first part of the employment process takes place through participation in a competition, held on Saturday 30 January 2027 at Skive Music School and in the Music House at Skive Garrison. An accompanist will be provided.

The competition consists of the following tasks

  • Round:

At Skive Music School, Asylgade 5, 7800 Skive

With piano accompaniment

Richard Strauss Horn Concerto No. 1, 1st movement

Orchestra excerpts

2nd Round

At Skive Music School, Asylgade 5, 7800 Skive

Orchestra excerpts

Both the 1st and 2nd rounds are behind a screen.

3rd Round

Prince’s Music Corps Music House, Sdr. Boulevard 15, Skive Garrison, 7800 Skive

Orchestra excerpts with group and orchestra

The orchestra excerpts are submitted immediately after the application deadline.

Among the registered applicants, the panel of judges reserves the right to invite a number of applicants. The invited will be notified immediately after the posting of the vacancy. Suitable candidates are selected to participate in a subsequent employment interview, which takes place by agreement with the candidates.

Applicants cover their own travel and accommodation expenses.

Employment terms

Employment and remuneration are in accordance with the currently applicable Organisational Agreement for Musicians and Conductors in the Defence of 28 May 2025 between the Ministry of Defence’s Personnel Agency, CO10, and the Association of Musicians in the Defence.

Depending on your qualifications and competencies there is the possibility of negotiating additional allowances. In addition, there is a complete employer-funded pension scheme.

The positions are full-time with a start date of 1 March 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. Permanent employment takes place after a probationary period of one year.

The workplace is in Skive.

As an employee of the Defence you are subject to some special conditions. You must, among other things, be able to obtain security clearance and maintain the clearance throughout the employment.

As an employee you have a duty to render service outside the country’s borders, including at units in international operations with a view to participation in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peace-building, humanitarian and other similar operations.

Special conditions

You should be aware that there are physical and functional health requirements attached to the position, and that the position requires you to be able to be deployed on international missions. This means that employment is conditional on you passing a test at the Selection in the Personnel Command. The test consists of a physical test, a health assessment and a mental resilience assessment.

The position has been medically classified as category A1 with a low load level according to FKOBST FSK 906-1 June 2025.

The date for the test will be announced after the interviews and must be completed and clarified before we initiate salary negotiations and employment. You can read about the physical requirements at forsvaret.dk
