About the job

Mariehøj Parish seeks two committed organists who together will help develop a living church and music life with strong musical traditions

We have allocated a budget equivalent to 58 hours per week distributed across two positions . Our starting point is a full-time and a part-time position, but we are open to another distribution of hours if it yields the best match between applicants and tasks. Some tasks will naturally be linked to the larger position. Please indicate in your application which number of hours you are interested in.

The positions are to be filled by December 1, 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

We offer

  • A rich church life with good musical traditions and a broad range of activities and concerts in an attractive area with beautiful nature and good conditions for family life.
  • An amazing church space with a well-sounding Marcussen & Søn organ with 32 stops, inaugurated in 1965 and later renovated and improved. In addition, we have a grand piano in the church as well as piano and electric piano in the parish house.
  • A close collaboration between two musicians, who jointly plan work tasks, holidays and weekends off with a high degree of flexibility and opportunities for professional sparring.
  • A really good working environment with strong team spirit and cooperation. We lift together, gather over coffee and have room for both seriousness and a good laugh.
  • A parish council that works well together, is open to new ideas and wishes to support our strong musical traditions, which have strong support from the local community.
  • Good facilities in the parish house, where you will receive an office workspace together with your organist colleague. Here also two of the parish's three priests, the parish clerk, the church and culture officer and the daily manager have their workplaces.

The tasks are distributed between our two musicians and include, among other things

  • Organist duties at services and religious ceremonies within both classical and contemporary repertoire. A number of funerals take place from the Chapel at Silkeborg Cemetery.
  • Approximately 15 annual nursing-home services spread across two nursing homes.
  • Leadership and development of the church choir, which mainly consists of high school students, as well as our two children's choirs, which participate in certain services. All choirs also perform concerts.
  • Leadership of 4 groups for baby hymn singing annually.
  • Planning and execution of Summer Choir Camp Silkeborg in collaboration with the organists at Virklund and Silkeborg Churches. One of Mariehøj's organists is the project coordinator.
  • Accompaniment for congregational singing at many different events throughout the year.
  • Planning, PR, etc. regarding concerts in collaboration with a colleague and the activities committee
  • Contributing to the development of services and events in collaboration with priests and the parish council.
  • Continuation of the dementia choir, to the extent that the current funding continues. This will add 4 hours to the 58 hours
  • Collaboration with local actors such as Vestre School and the music association MusikRampen.
  • Administrative tasks including remuneration of the youth choir.

We emphasize that you

  • Have a high professional level on organ and/or piano and strong competencies as a choir leader.
  • Are familiar with liturgy in services and church ceremonies or can quickly learn it.
  • Have the desire to contribute ideas and development while respecting the parish’s traditions.
  • Work independently and with commitment.
  • Thrive in close collaboration with colleagues and see the value in bringing different competencies into play.
  • Have a pedagogical approach to working with choirs and singers of all ages.
