About the job
Would you like, as a lawyer, to help solve complex urban development projects from a planning-law perspective, where law, politics and urban considerations must come together in a higher unity?
The Urban Development Area in the Climate, Environment and Technical Administration is seeking an experienced lawyer with in-depth knowledge of the Planning Act, who can qualify legal assessments, advise on planning-law boundaries and contribute to solutions in some of Copenhagen's exciting urban development projects.
The Urban Development Area plays a central role in developing Copenhagen's future. Through local planning we set the legal frameworks for new neighbourhoods and larger building and urban development projects and translate the municipality's political and strategic goals into concrete plans.
About the position
The work requires solid planning-law expertise and the ability to handle complex legal issues at the intersection of the Planning Act, political considerations, urban development and citizen- and property-owner interests, but also collaboration across disciplines and departments. We work with some of Copenhagen's largest urban development areas, including Jernbanebyen, Nordhavn, Lynetteholm and Tingbjerg, and with a wide range of smaller projects, where both new construction, transformation and preservation take place.
About the tasks
The focus of your tasks is the Planning Act. You will join a project team in the work with local plans and deliver legal assessments in the complex planning processes. You contribute to or take independent responsibility for legal cases and proposals to leadership and politicians and can also participate in cross-cutting tasks and the development of political strategies. You will thus have the opportunity to apply your planning-law expertise to concrete urban development projects and contribute legally sound solutions.
You will become part of a team of 10 people with both urban planners and architects. We value close interdisciplinary collaboration, where we share knowledge, brainstorm on concrete problems and together find the best solutions for the city to complex planning challenges. You will also participate in the weekly sparring in the legal group, where we discuss concrete planning- and juridical questions and strengthen professional quality across cases.
About you
You are trained cand.jur. (Master of Law), preferably with about five years' experience from the central administration, a law firm or a consulting company. You must be able to provide legal advice at a high level, have good political understanding and be able to act independently and professionally in relation to the various tasks.
We also attach importance to that you are well versed in administrative law and preferably have experience with planning-law issues. Knowledge of other parts of environmental law, including the Environmental Impact Assessment Act, is an advantage.
You communicate clearly, concisely and precisely, both in writing and orally in Danish, work structurally and are able to keep overview and make well-founded decisions. You thrive in a public, politically governed organization and are good at collaborating across disciplines. At the same time you want to contribute to both the professional development and the social community in the team and across.
About us
The position is placed in the Local Plans North and West unit in the Urban Development Area. The unit consists of about 20 employees and is subdivided into a team structure. The position will be in Team West.
In the Urban Development Area we are about 120 engaged colleagues of all ages who both love Copenhagen and one another. You will become part of a strong cross-disciplinary community of building and landscape architects, urban planners, jurists, engineers, graphic designers and traffic planners, who are ready to pull together, and where knowledge sharing, professional sparring and development are in focus. We value good collegial interaction, occasional Friday bar and other professional and social events.
The Urban Development Area is part of the Climate and Urban Development Department. Here you will work with about 400 dedicated colleagues who all strive to make Copenhagen an even better and more sustainable city to live, work and build in. The department has 17 professional units and a secretariat, which with a holistic view, curiosity and high professional quality solves tasks within waste and resources, climate initiatives, urban planning, social housing, deprived city and analyses.
As an employee in Climate and Urban Development you must be willing to engage in collaborations and projects that cross disciplines and professional areas. We believe that good solutions become stronger and more effective when we solve them together - coordinated and across disciplines, units and authority areas. We also have as a norm to do it properly – and we do it for Copenhagen.
Employment terms
Salary and terms of employment are set according to the applicable collective agreement and otherwise after negotiation with the professional organization. This is a permanent full-time position with start as soon as possible and no later than 1 January 2027.
We have flex-time and the possibility to work from home up to two days a week.
