About the job

Dear future colleague

My name is Ann Dorte Aagaard, and I am the manager of Tjørneparken. Tjørneparken is first and foremost a home – 25 adults live here. After our new renovation all places are now filled, and therefore we are looking for new colleagues who want to become part of a strong professional and interdisciplinary community.

With us you meet people with various and complex support needs, including autism, congenital brain injury, altered perception of reality and attention disorders. Many have multiple issues at once. Therefore we work holistically and always start from the individual person’s resources, wishes, needs and possibilities.

A home with room for diversity

Tjørneparken consists of a one-story main house with two wings and seven townhouses. The townhouses provide an opportunity for a more independent daily life – with access to both support and community.

Everyday life matters. We play games, meet in the common living room, go on excursions and to restaurants, and twice a year we travel together. Every Saturday we hold a house meeting, where residents have influence on activities and everyday life. For the relationship is central: We believe that development and well-being are strengthened when people feel seen, heard and met with respect, professional curiosity and clear boundaries.

When you become a contact person

As a contact person you are typically primary for 1-2 residents and secondary for two others – but you are part of a team where we share the tasks. You support the individual in creating structure, coherence and meaning in everyday life and work with individual goals, development, mastery and maintenance of skills. You accompany to e.g. doctor, psychiatry and meetings in the municipality, collaborate with relatives, guardians and other partners, and document systematically – both social and health-related.

The need for support varies. For most, it is mainly about guidance, structure and support to preserve or develop skills. A few have a need for more extensive support for everyday tasks, personal care and self-care. Common to the work is that the support is organized with respect for the individual’s integrity, dignity and self-determination.

Professionalism you can feel in everyday life

We work recovery-oriented and based on recognition and mentalizing, and structure, predictability and clear boundaries are important in our pedagogical practice. But methods alone do not suffice. We are curious about people and what may lie behind a behavior. We share observations, discuss professional dilemmas and help each other find new perspectives when an effort needs to be adjusted.

You do not have to solve everything alone. We actively use each other, and your professionalism becomes part of the collective – for daily overlaps, our short check-in at 11, in ongoing sparring and supervision and in the social-pedagogical team. At the same time you get the freedom to make decisions when you are in the situation.

We like to keep learning

As part of Gran Recovery and Health, competence development, further and continuing education and specialization matter a lot. At Tjørneparken we work purposefully to strengthen our professional profile and specialization, and we would like new perspectives to be in play. If you have a professional area you are passionate about, we would love to hear about it.

Maybe you have a background as a social educator, pedagogical assistant or occupational therapist – or you have another relevant background. Whatever it is, you will receive a thorough introduction where you join your new colleagues, so you learn the residents, the professionalism and the house well.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards

Ann Dorte Aagaard

Leader of Tjørneparken

About Tjørneparken

Tjørneparken is a long-term residential service under the Danish Service Act § 108 with space for 25 adults who live in the main house or in one of our seven townhouses. We are about 40 staff, of which around 20 are contact persons, and we are an interdisciplinary team of social educators, pedagogical assistants, nurses, occupational and physiotherapists and caseworkers.

We belong to Granhøjen and Gran Recovery and Health – a family-owned psychiatric group that has grown from a supported service in the founders’ living room in 1985 to more than 400 employees in five companies. With us, living, treatment and employment go hand in hand, and the efforts are planned in collaboration with the individual resident. The person is more than their diagnosis, and community, responsibility and recognition are fundamental values in our work. Read more about Tjørneparken here.
