About the job

Are you a nurse who thrives in a high-tech environment where acute care and Family-Centered Care are part of daily life? Then you might be the one we are looking for!

We offer both permanent positions and 1-year temporary contracts starting January 1, 2027, or by agreement.

With us you will have the opportunity to make a difference for ill newborns and/or premature babies and their families.

Newborn Intensive Care is a highly specialized unit where we provide treatment and care for ill newborns and/or premature babies. Our patient group consists of children born from gestational week 23 up to 3 months after term. We prioritize high professional quality, well-being and a positive work environment.

Learning, sparring and development are the foundation of our daily life, which is characterized by many complex tasks.

We also manage the regional neonatal transport system, where we pick up acutely ill newborns to our department, where the child is treated until the child is out of the intensive phase. Thereafter the child and the family are transported to their respective home hospital.

We strive to provide the best treatment and care to the child with the family at the center, taking into account the individual family's needs, resources and values. We involve the parents as much as possible in the care and treatment of their child.

The individual child’s length of stay varies from short contacts of a few hours to longer trajectories lasting up to several months.

All children come to the department more or less acutely, which means that patient flow is highly variable.

Therefore, you must be adaptable and flexible and thrive in a fluctuating and sometimes fast-paced work environment where continuous focus on learning and competence development is required.

We work based on NIDCAP, which is a special approach to reading and interpreting the signals of premature babies. We have a NIDCAP trainer and NIDCAP professionals employed who offer sparring and learning. It is expected that you see yourself developing competencies within NIDCAP through our FINE1 education within the first year.

Newborn Intensive Care can offer

  • A versatile job with broad professional scope and the opportunity to deepen in a specialized department
  • A well-structured introduction program, where you are outside the standard staffing for the first 4-6 weeks
  • You will follow daily supervisors during your training period
  • Within the first year you will have sparring days every 3-4 months
  • A structured and targeted training program in the intensive part of nursing
  • Competence cards where you can track your professional development
  • Up to 14 shifts in 6 weeks (Mixed evening and night shifts)
  • Weekend shift every 2nd weekend for 8 hours or weekend shift every 3rd weekend for 12 hours
  • Engaged, competent and wonderful colleagues who always want to discuss professionalism and share knowledge
  • An department where integrity, mutual trust, honesty and recognition are valued. We have a high degree of psychological safety, which creates a good work and learning environment.
  • Close interprofessional collaboration with doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, chaplain, psychologist, bioanalyst

We are looking for nurses who

  • Have experience in neonatology, pediatrics or intensive care nursing
  • have a strong desire and ability to work with the child and family at the center
  • find it inspiring to work with complex and acute problems
  • thrive in a technological environment
  • are motivated to work with professional development
  • are flexible, adaptable and desire competence development
  • can see themselves in the intensive specialty.
  • can work in a fluctuating department with mixed shift types and a large group of colleagues.
