About the job

A position as a nurse at the Unit for Palliative Care (ELB), Aarhus University Hospital, is available from February 1, 2027. The position is, in principle, a full-time position at 37 hours per week and as a rule, without on-call duty.

About the position

The position as a nurse at the Unit for Palliative Care is a role in which you will provide the nursing care to patients with life-threatening illness in close collaboration with your multidisciplinary colleagues. Palliative patient pathways are characterized by complex problems of physical, psychological, social and existential nature. Therefore it is important that you have solid nursing knowledge and experience in caring for patients with palliative issues.

Palliative patient pathways require high-quality cross-department and cross-sector collaboration, which means you must possess organizational competencies and an ability to see solutions and opportunities relating to the patient's symptoms, needs and wishes for the final period of life. In addition, your work includes advising collaboration partners, teaching and development work.

With the health reform there is an increased focus on treatment and care closer to the citizen and strengthening of the local health system. The Unit for Palliative Care plays a central role in this development through close cross-sector collaboration, guidance and competence development of health professionals across sectors. Therefore, we seek a nurse who wishes to be part of this development and contribute to ongoing competence development, quality improvement and implementation of new working methods for the benefit of patients and their relatives.

The Unit for Palliative Care is characterized by a committed and well-functioning multidisciplinary collaboration, where high professional quality goes hand in hand with a good working environment. We meet each other with openness, respect and curiosity and value differences as a strength. Humor, collegial support and joint reflection are important elements in our culture, and we actively work to create a framework where employees thrive, develop and find meaning in their work.

Your primary tasks are

  • participation in the first home visit together with the doctor
  • subsequent coordination of the specialized palliative effort in the form of independent follow-up home visits or video/phone consultations
  • independent handling of the nursing care for patients and their relatives
  • ongoing coordination with collaborators both internally and externally
  • ensuring high-quality documentation both internally and externally and development hereof
  • support surviving relatives in processing the uncomplicated grief process.

There is an advantage if you have

  • experience from both the primary and secondary sectors
  • knowledge and experience from working with patients with palliative needs
  • willingness to work and think cross-disciplinary and cross-sectorially
  • willingness to work and think innovatively in a daily life characterized by changes
  • teaching and guidance experience
  • preferably experience and desire to supervise students
  • interest in participating in development and project tasks
  • ability to apply professional judgment, assessment and forward planning to thereby create insight, overview and decisive competence among our collaborators internal and external
  • personal strength and courage to involve oneself professionally in contact with the patient and relatives.

The Unit for Palliative Care works based on the WHO definition of palliation and the National Board of Health's recommendations for the specialized palliative care. Patients have life-threatening diseases with complex problems that cannot be managed at basic level. ELB aims to promote quality of life for patients and their relatives. The unit accepts patients from the catchment areas of Aarhus and Samsø municipalities, regardless of whether the patient is at home, living in a municipal facility or in hospital.

Patients' pathways are managed in close collaboration with general practice, and staff in primary and secondary sectors.

Salary and conditions of employment in accordance with the applicable collective agreement. Employment is conditional on a satisfactory criminal record check and satisfactory authorization.
