About the job

We are seeking a chief physician or consultant in internal medicine, emergency medicine or another relevant specialty for the Department of

Geriatric Diseases and Citizen-Centered Health, Zealand University Hospital Køge and Nykøbing Falster.

As part of a reorganization of the medical area and in response to the Health Reform, a new Department of Geriatric Diseases and Citizen-Centered Health will be established on 1 January at Zealand University Hospital Køge and Nykøbing Falster.

The department is a fusion of the geriatric functions at the two campuses and a new unit for Citizen-Centered Health.

The department participates in a shared on-call with the other medical departments at the Nykøbing Falster campus, and the department covers about 25% of the on-call shifts.

The department's chief physicians and specialists are specialists in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. Due to the health reform, our current geriatrics specialists will be allocated to geriatric functions both at the hospital and in the community (at health and care centers).

We therefore seek a consultant primarily with the aim of handling the on-call function. We envisage a 37-hour position filled with five on-call shifts per month, and some participation in clinical meetings and the department's educational responsibilities. If a development area is desired linked to the position, it could be around the interface with the emergency department.

The internal medicine on-call at SUH Nykøbing Falster is a broad internal medical on-call with contact to most acute medical specialties. The on-call duty is with a bound presence, such that the on-call from about 21:00 can withdraw to the on-call room.

Start date 1 January 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The positions will have a main place of work: SUH Nykøbing Falster.

Submit your application with your wishes and visions and we will tailor the position to you.

The Geriatric Function

Our vision is a strong geriatric function that covers the geriatric specialty at the hospital and in the community, including acute geriatrics, ortho-geriatry, geriatric dementia assessment and external geriatrics: we have established ortho-geriatrics and dementia assessment in both Køge and Nykøbing F. At both campuses we have a geriatric ward and a geriatric outpatient function, in Nykøbing with regional function for specialized fall assessment.

As one of the new tasks in the community, we have medical responsibility for the SOP beds, where there will be one to two weekly visits by a fixed consultant. Here, the physician assesses selected citizens, educates and builds relations with staff. To a lesser extent, a geriatric nurse accompanies the physician. There is 24/7 physician coverage with a Hotline during daytime and handling of acute tasks by the medical on-call physician during the on-call period. There are approximately 180 citizens admitted to the SOP beds in our health area.

We are a total of 18 consultants in the overall department. There is a well-functioning ward at each campus and, as described, we collaborate with the orthopaedic and neurological departments. We are currently strengthening our palliative efforts. In the outpatient area, the geriatric outpatient function is developed and can work together with ward beds and extend out to the community health services.

We offer

  • A position with the possibility to focus on acute internal medical on-call
  • Contribute to the development of new patient pathways
  • Employment in a department that prioritizes evidence-based treatment and research-based development, as well as pre- and post-graduate teaching

  • Employment where close interdisciplinary collaborations are prioritized

We expect that you

  • Are a consultant in internal medicine with a subspecialty, emergency medicine or other relevant specialist training

  • Take responsibility in patient care and have an eye for good patient pathways
  • Are interested in the development of the field and able to see opportunities rather than limitations
  • Want to teach and participate in pre- and post-graduate education
  • Are active in the department's and field's development work

Department of Geriatric Diseases and Citizen-Centered Health.

As mentioned, this is a new department created to establish new, cohesive pathways for older medical patients and citizens.

The department is a fusion of the geriatric functions in Køge and Nykøbing F., along with a new overarching department for Citizen-Centered Health, where acute care nursing and SOP beds with physician coverage fall under.

Education, Training and Research

The department is classified as a training department for further education in internal medicine: geriatrics. We currently have 4 HU doctors in geriatrics and additional HU programs in other specialties

The department participates in the clinical education of medical students.

There is a nursing professorship and a postdoc position, as well as a research-responsible chief physician attached to the department.
