At Søhuset, children and young people from 0–18 years with significant and lasting physical and cognitive impairments live. They need extensive support for care, well-being and development – around the clock.

As an educational assistant you will be part of the daily staffing level and work closely with educators and other professional groups to create a safe, recognizable and meaningful daily life for each child.

With us development can show itself in the very small things. It can be a child becoming clearer in expressing what it wants, a movement or a sound we learn to understand, or a child gradually able to participate more in an activity. It requires presence, patience and a desire to really get to know each child.

Daily life at Søhuset With us care, well-being and development are closely connected.

A large part of the children communicate without spoken language. Therefore we must be curious about their signals and what their behavior tells us. Some children have extensive physical impairments, epilepsy and need help with almost all everyday activities. Others can react externally or self-harm when surroundings or demands become too difficult.

In daily life you will, among other things, work with

• care and nursing – support for personal care, meals and other daily tasks
• relationships and communication – learn each child’s signals and create security through presence and recognition
• activities and development – participate in play, sensory activities, outings and everyday activities based on the child’s needs and development level
• structure and support – help create a predictable daily life and adjust demands and frameworks to the individual child
• professional collaboration – share your observations and experiences and contribute in team meetings, staff meetings and daily sparring
• dokumentation – document relevant observations and follow the goals and agreements we work from.

At Søhuset we are typically 6 staff members around 8 children and young people. You often have special focus on 1–2 children at a time. This makes it possible to be close to each child, build strong relationships and adapt support to the child’s needs and daily form.

The pace varies. Sometimes you need to act quickly, other times there should be calm and time to wait for a small initiative, a movement or a signal from the child.

You will become part of a professional community We work from a shared professional direction with neuroeducation and Low Arousal as central approaches. We are focused on understanding what lies behind the child’s reactions, and how we ourselves can adapt our approach and the framework around the child.

You will become part of a community where we share observations, experiences and ideas and together explore what works for the individual child. We work with team meetings, supervision, documentation and ongoing professional sparring.

We do not expect you to have all the answers. Instead we expect you to be curious, take responsibility for your part of the task and want to learn and develop together with your colleagues.

We are looking for an educational assistant who…

• is trained as an educational assistant and wants to work with children and young people with significant and lasting impairments
• sees care and nursing as a natural and important part of the job
• is present and curious about the individual child’s signals, needs and reactions
• wants to work with relationships, activities, structure and development
• can stay calm and adapt their approach when a child is having a tough time
• wants to learn about neuroeducation and Low Arousal
• thrives in close collegial collaboration and contributes with their observations and experiences
• has a driving license.

You do not need experience from the special needs field. The most important thing is that you want to work with the target group, are curious and have the courage to learn and develop together with us.

About Søhuset Søhuset is one of the Region of Northern Jutland’s special children’s homes. Here live children and young people with various and complex physical and cognitive impairments.

At Søhuset there are currently 6 resident children, and 5 children come for respite care. The children have different needs for support in daily life – some need support for most things, others for everything.

We work closely in a multidisciplinary team with one common goal: to give the children and young people a safe, predictable and developmental daily life.

The children and the young people can have autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and attachment disorders. Several have no or limited verbal language, and therefore we also work with alternative and augmentative communication.

Everyone needs an individually tailored, recognizable and structured daily life. Our professional work is based, among other things, on the professional relationship, neuroeducation and Low Arousal.

The practical

This is a permanent position and a temporary position of between 30-37 hours on average per week depending on how many hours you want, starting 1 December 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter . The position involves rotating shifts – day and evening – and every other weekend on weekend duty . Night work may occur during holiday or illness periods.

Salary and terms of employment according to the applicable agreement for care and educational assistants as well as educational assistants, concluded with 3F, Social Pedagogues and FOA.
