About the job
New children are moving into Søhuset, and therefore we are expanding our staff group.
Do you want to use your physiotherapy expertise in a specialized area? And are you motivated by working closely with children and adolescents, where movement, relationship, care and participation in everyday life are closely linked?
Then you may be our new colleague at Søhuset.
At Søhuset, children and young people from 0–18 years with significant and lasting physical and cognitive impairments live. They need extensive support for care, well-being and development – around the clock.
As a physiotherapist, you will be part of the daily staffing level and the children's daily life in the same way as your colleagues. Your physiotherapeutic expertise becomes part of the joint task solving rather than a separate treatment function.
We need different professional perspectives when we need to understand the individual child and decide how best to support the child’s daily life. Here your physiotherapeutic perspective on, among other things, movement, motor function, physical function, positioning, transfer and bodily signals can contribute to our shared understanding of the child.
We are therefore looking for you who both want to be very close to the children’s everyday life and want to bring your own professional background into a multidisciplinary community. You should not solve physiotherapeutic tasks on the side of daily life – your professional knowledge must help qualify the way we together solve the core task.
Everyday life at Søhuset For us, care, well-being and development go hand in hand.
A large part of the children communicate without spoken language. This means that we must be curious about their signals and about what their behavior tells us. Some children have extensive physical disabilities, epilepsy and need help with almost all daily activities. Others can react outwardly or self-harm when the surroundings or the demands become too difficult.
Your workday may therefore include personal care, meals, play and activities, medication, practical tasks, documentation and professional reflection. As a physiotherapist you can also contribute with a special view on how the child’s body, movement possibilities and physical prerequisites influence well-being, participation and development.
At Søhuset we are typically 6 staff members around 8 children and adolescents. You often have a particular focus on 1–2 children at a time. This makes it possible to be close to the individual child, build strong relationships and tailor support to the child’s needs and daily form.
The pace varies. Sometimes action is needed quickly, other times there must be calm and time to wait for a small initiative, a movement or a signal from the child.
You will be part of a professional community We work from a common professional direction with neuro-pedagogy and Low Arousal as central approaches. We are focused on examining the child’s needs and understanding what lies behind the child’s reactions.
When we share observations, set goals and decide the professional direction at team meetings, we need different perspectives. Here we expect you to bring your physiotherapeutic knowledge into play and help us notice aspects we might not have seen ourselves.
At the same time, you must be curious about your colleagues’ pedagogical and other professional perspectives. We work with supervision, documentation and ongoing professional sparring, and you do not need to have all the answers. We instead expect you to want to explore, reflect and learn together with us.
We offer A workplace with a complex target group, where your physiotherapy expertise can be used very close to the children and their daily life.
You will have experienced colleagues with different competencies and opportunities for sparring and supervision. At the same time, you will have the chance to bring another professional background into a staff group where pedagogy plays a large part today.
You will become part of a safe and supportive community, where we support each other in tasks and share responsibility in daily life. As a new colleague you will be warmly welcomed and given time, support and sparring to settle well into the job.
We offer among other things
- a thorough induction program
- training in transfer, medication management and conflict resolution
- mentoring and supervision.
“It is important that newcomers are well received and have time to ease into the house, and that there is follow-up on how it goes for them – that they are taken under the wings. It is not expected that you can know everything after a week.”
- Educator, Søhuset
We are looking for a physiotherapist who…
- is a trained physiotherapist and wants to work with children and young people with significant and lasting impairments
- sees care and welfare as a natural and important part of the job
- wants to bring their physiotherapeutic knowledge about the body, movement and function into the children’s daily life
- is curious about the child’s small bodily signals and what lies behind the child’s reactions and behavior
- can maintain calm and adapt their approach when a child is having difficulty
- wants to learn about neuro-pedagogy and Low Arousal and bring their own professional perspective into the shared professional reflection
- thrives in close collegial collaboration and communicates clearly and professionally with colleagues, parents and partners
- has a driving license
You do not need to have experience from the special needs sector. The most important thing is that you want to work with the target group and are curious about how your physiotherapeutic expertise can make a difference in the children’s daily lives.
About Søhuset Søhuset is one of Region North Jutland’s special children’s homes. Here live children and young people with different and complex physical and cognitive disabilities.
At Søhuset there are currently 6 resident children, and 5 children come for respite care. The children have different needs for support in everyday life – some need support with most things, others with everything.
We work closely together in a multidisciplinary team with one common goal: to give the children and young people a safe, predictable and developmental daily life.
The children and the young people may have, among others, autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and attachment disorders. Several have no or limited verbal language, and therefore we also work with alternative and augmentative communication.
Everyone needs an individually arranged, recognizable and structured daily life. Our professional work is based, among other things, on the professional relationship, neuro-pedagogy and Low Arousal.
