About the job

ZOO is on a strategic journey that requires us to expand our staffing in our operations department, and we are therefore seeking a Project Manager.

We need to execute and follow up on several projects within both small and large construction, civil engineering, and maintenance projects.

You will be part of a larger operations department (35 employees) reporting to the Property & Operations Manager. You will join a strong team of experienced and skilled colleagues with many different disciplines, where you will also operate within a very complex organization.

You will help translate ideas and needs into concrete project plans, including stakeholders, resources, and budget management. In the role you must both have an overview and be able to roll up your sleeves to solve some of the tasks and ensure high quality and service in the individual projects.

As a project manager you are relationally strong and used to bringing many disciplines together across an organization and with external partners. You understand how to involve, create collaboration, follow up, and communicate clearly and effectively.

Your primary areas of responsibility will include

  • Ensure the completion of installation, maintenance, and construction projects from A to Z
  • Prepare project plans, communication and implementation plans
  • Conduct project/construction meetings with both internal colleagues and external partners
  • Obtain bids and prepare proposals to management
  • Management of project budgets and reporting to the executive leadership
  • Cooperate and communicate with internal and external partners, including contractors, consultants, and tradespeople
  • Assist in mapping and documenting that all Zoo buildings, utility networks, and piping etc. are correctly recorded
  • Dialogue with authorities and securing permits and approvals
  • Compliance with the Working Environment Act and safety rules on construction and renovation tasks
  • Ad hoc support to the Property and Operations Manager in daily tasks, including representing the department in cross-functional coordinating groups

We are looking for you who

  • Has 5-7 years of documented project management experience from similar organizations or construction and civil engineering companies
  • Has a professionally relevant education such as engineer, building constructor, or equivalent technical background, including also a project management qualification
  • Experience with project management tools and knowledge of AutoCAD and Byggeweb
  • Can handle many balls in the air and is strong at prioritizing and meeting deadlines
  • Is a skilled communicator both verbally and in writing
  • Naturally engages, informs, and follows up
  • Is known for being a good partner, taking responsibility when things get tight
  • Delivers solutions, results, and quality at a high level
  • Has an overview but also a sense of getting to the finish with the details
  • Thrives at a high pace, with many stakeholders and a wide variety of tasks
  • Contributes to the team and, not least, the department
  • Is positive and has a constructive approach to tasks

We offer

An exciting position where you will have a versatile and challenging role in one of Denmark's most traditional and visited cultural institutions. Zoo is a particularly unique workplace where many disciplines are gathered and no day is the same. A place where animals, nature conservation, communication, and business meet – and where you get the opportunity to make your mark on Zoo.

The position is full-time and compensation is based on qualifications and experience. In addition, pension scheme and health insurance as well as a Zoo staff card.

If this sounds like something for you, apply via the link on this page. If you have questions about the position, please contact Property and Operations Manager, Helge Diness Christensen at [email protected] or HR Consultant Dorthe Greve at [email protected] .

Motivated application including CV should be sent via the link as soon as possible and no later than 09 October 2026.

About ZOO

The Copenhagen Zoo is a self-governing institution, one of Europe’s oldest zoological gardens and one of Denmark’s most visited attractions with more than 1,300,000 annual visitors. Through experiences and storytelling we aim to increase our guests’ interest and understanding of nature and its diversity, so they are inspired to take better care of it.

We exist to promote nature conservation and to care for the world's animals – both those living in the Haven in Frederiksberg and the endangered species around the world. We collaborate locally, nationally, and internationally and are active across six continents, contributing to secure the future of endangered species through research, breeding programs, and partnerships.

We are the only zoological garden in Denmark with all resources in-house – including veterinarians, biologists, researchers, and nature conservation teams. This obliges us to take responsibility and act. With our own teams we have for many decades been engaged in hotspots of nature where wildlife needs us most – whether it is in a field on Lolland or in a national park in Africa.
