About the job

Kindergarten Class Teacher at Bakkeskolen

Do you want to help create a strong foundation for children’s first year at school?

We are looking for an engaged and relationship-focused kindergarten class teacher who wants to create the framework where children can develop their social, personal and academic skills and experience themselves as meaningful participants in the school’s communities. Our students need adults who can look beyond the behavior, be curious about the child’s perspective, and at the same time maintain positive and realistic expectations.

As a kindergarten class teacher, you will play a central role in the children’s first meeting with the school. Together with your team, you must help establish the frameworks, routines and relationships that form the basis for the children’s ongoing schooling. This requires both pedagogical judgment, clarity and an understanding of how play, learning, movement and community can support the children’s development.

Bakkeskolen

Bakkeskolen is a special school for children with socio-emotional challenges, located at Gl. Sognevej 8 in Sejet. We also have a smaller department at Kildegade in Horsens, which is an integrated part of our overall offering.

Bakkeskolen is part of Horsens Ungdomsskole, and as a staff member you will therefore become part of a large organization with many different professional fields, offerings and opportunities. It provides access to exciting cross-institution collaborations and the opportunity to bring your professionalism into play in new contexts. We have a strong focus on learning from each other and creating coherence between school, leisure and other communities around children and young people.

The school’s everyday life is carried by a skilled and engaged staff who, together, create the framework for the children’s wellbeing, development and participation. We place emphasis on being clear, warm adults who create predictability and, at the same time, meet the children with respect, presence and attention to each child’s perspective.

Our pedagogical starting point

At Bakkeskolen we know that children’s behavior makes sense when we understand it in the context in which it occurs. Therefore our pedagogical approach is rooted in mentalization, low arousal and Nussa.

We work to understand what lies behind the children’s actions and to design the frameworks that support their ability to regulate, participate and develop. This means that we pay attention to both the individual child’s perspective and the communities and learning environments the child is a part of.

Nature and outdoor life are an important part of the school’s pedagogical profile. We actively use the surroundings for movement, calm, sensation and learning and emphasize an active and motivating teaching style where students experience mastery, joy and a desire to learn.

Music and community also play a major role in daily life. Many of our students play instruments, and we regularly gather for morning songs, concerts and other events, where parents are also invited. It creates presence, pride and strong relationships and makes room for both each child’s voice and the collective “we.”

You will become part of a strong community

At Bakkeskolen you are never alone.

You will be part of a school where professionalism, community and job satisfaction go hand in hand. We are close to one another in everyday life, share ideas, help each other and actively use each other’s expertise. There is room to ask questions, wonder, spar and try something new, and we stand together when something is difficult. We always work in teams consisting of 3-5 teachers and pedagogues.

We prioritize staff professional development and offer good opportunities for competency development. In the current school year we have, for example, presentations from, among others, Dorthe Birkemose and Bo Hejlskov as part of our joint competence development together with the Youth School. You will have the opportunity to develop your practice together with skilled colleagues and be part of a professional community where we learn from each other.

As a kindergarten class teacher you will also be part of close collaboration with the rest of Bakkeskolen’s staff and the professionals around the children. We believe the best solutions arise when we look at the child together and bring different professional perspectives into play.

Would you like to be part of our community?

We imagine that you

  • are either educated as a pedagogue or a teacher, possibly with a further specialization
  • are passionate about working with the youngest schoolchildren and want to make a difference for children who need a different approach to school
  • have strong relationships and can create safe and predictable settings
  • meet the children with warmth, clarity and respect
  • see play, movement, creativity and community as important pathways to learning
  • are curious about what lies behind the children’s behavior and see behavior as communication
  • have positive and realistic expectations for all children and an awareness of their resources and developmental potential
  • can create structure and recognizability without losing flexibility and curiosity
  • thrive in a close and committed team-based collaboration
  • want to further develop daily practice in close, professional community with us

Experience from the special education field is an advantage, but not a requirement. The most important for us is that you are passionate about the target group, curious about your own practice and ready to create a school day where children feel they belong, succeed and develop.

If you can see yourself in the role and in our way of working, we look forward to hearing from you.
