About the job

Resident physician for the Department of Brain and Nerve Investigations, Rigshospitalet - Glostrup, Danish Center for Sleep Disorders

Are you on track for a training in general medicine, pulmonology, neurology or psychiatry or another relevant specialty? And are you interested in strengthening your CV by acquiring and developing competencies in sleep disorders at a highly specialized center? Then we may have the job you are looking for!

For the Danish Center for Sleep Disorders (DCSS) at Rigshospitalet we are seeking a doctor to start as soon as possible. The work includes handling a range of clinical tasks within the assessment and treatment of sleep disorders, particularly sleep apnea, narcolepsy and parasomnias. As our new colleague you will gain solid insight into the department’s areas of expertise and will, in due course, have to work independently with sleep patients.

There will be good opportunities to gain competencies within the 7 physician roles tailored to your wishes - e.g. in communication/teaching, health promotion and administrative tasks (quality work) or to participate in smaller development or research projects depending on need/interest. You will also work closely with our specialized nurses.

The position is 37 hours per week with daytime work on weekdays. The position is as a rule initially limited to 1 year. Please note that we cannot offer an evaluate position.

You are

  • a trained doctor - preferably with professional interest in medicine (including cardiology/pulmonology), neurology, and sleep medicine
  • able to work independently and enjoy collaboration with different professional groups
  • able to take responsibility and initiative
  • good at communicating clearly with patients and colleagues
  • flexible with regard to new tasks
  • thorough and positive
  • interested in professional development

We offer

  • an varied daily life with an exciting area of work, where interdisciplinary collaboration and a good working environment are in focus,
  • a workplace with a focus on development, collaboration and quality,
  • colleagues who are happy to teach you the functions of the field,
  • opportunities for professional and personal development,
  • opportunity to gain competencies within the 7 physician roles including teaching/communication
  • terms of employment in accordance with the applicable collective agreement.

The DCSS has about 40 staff. In addition to a professor with subject-area responsibility, our center consists of specialists, resident doctors, nurses, neurophysiology technicians, bioanalysts, secretaries, engineers and research staff. Your work will take place in close collaboration with the department’s staff and other partners.

The department has highly specialized functions and our staff diagnose patients with respiratory and neurological sleep disorders and examine for sleep apnea, narcolepsy, REM sleep disorders, parasomnias, etc.

We perform sleep studies with cardio-respiratory monitoring (CRM), polysomnography (PSG) with and without video, multiple sleep latency testing (MSLT) and lumbar puncture. The investigations are conducted both on an outpatient basis and during hospitalization.

In our outpatient clinic, our nurses treat sleep apnea, and doctors see patients who are being treated for all types of sleep disorders.

You will become part of the professional network at HNU, which, through conferences, journal club, medical teaching, etc., shares professional knowledge.

If you want to know more about the position, you are welcome to contact Professor Poul Jørgen Jennum, tel. 4025 7495.

You can further inform yourself about our clinic at www.rigshospitalet.dk.

Application deadline 20.11.2026. Interviews will be held on an ongoing basis.
