About the job

Do you want to lead the bidding work – and help choose the right projects? Are you strong in bids, calculation and tendering? Then you will get a central role with responsibility and influence – from the first project opportunity to the finished, competitive bid.

As part of ongoing development and expansion of the business, Kjær Knudsen A/S has created a new position as Sales and Bid Manager. On behalf of the company, Career | a JKS Company seeks an experienced profile who combines strong bid expertise and solid construction technical understanding with a commercial view of the market.

Kjær Knudsen is a modern contracting company with in-house bricklayers and carpenters. The company traces back to 1931 and handles main contracts including facade renovation, interior work and service tasks for both private and public customers.

About the position

As Sales and Bid Manager you will have overall responsibility for the bid process – from assessment of project opportunities and review of tender material to the final bid. You follow the market, spot relevant opportunities and help assess which projects Kjær Knudsen should pursue. You thus gain real influence on which projects Kjær Knudsen prioritizes, and a central role in converting attractive project opportunities into competitive bids.

The weight of the role lies in bid work, which accounts for about 70%, while the remaining 30% focuses on sales and market development. In bid work you will work, among other things, with risk assessment, qualification of trade contractors, site visits, quantity surveying, pricing and quality assurance of the final bid.

You will work closely with colleagues within bids, production and finance as well as with management on larger tenders and bids. Here it is expected that you can create the necessary overview and assess a case from technical, economic, commercial and time perspectives.

Your main areas of responsibility

  • Lead and coordinate the bid work in the department
  • Review and scrutinize tender material and drawings
  • Handle tender material and corrigenda in 12Build
  • Assess award criteria, quality requirements, risks and timelines
  • Calculate own production, including quantities, obtaining material prices and evaluating execution methods
  • Qualify subcontractors and issue tender material and obtain, review and compare offers
  • Facilitate project reviews, participate in site visits and identify alternative solutions
  • Quality assure bids, including quality writing and reservations, and participate in internal reviews and closing meetings
  • Finalise bids and ensure transfer of won projects to construction and project management
  • Map the market and create dialogue with clients and consultants
  • Maintain partner database and price catalog for own production

You must also stay ahead of the market

A natural part of your everyday life includes a sales and market-focused approach. You follow the market via Byggefakta Smart and identify upcoming construction projects, relevant clients and consultants, as well as when projects are expected to be tendered.

Based on this, you assess together with management which projects are interesting for Kjær Knudsen, and what is required to be able to submit the right and competitive bid.

You also contribute to developing relationships with relevant clients and consultants to strengthen Kjær Knudsen's position in the market.

Who are you?

You have a minimum of 10 years’ experience from the construction industry and have for a substantial period worked professionally with bids, calculation and a clear commercial focus.

You have a strong construction technical understanding and are used to reading drawings and navigating complex tender materials. You can translate the material into the quantities, prices, solutions and assumptions needed to prepare a correct and competitive bid. At the same time you have good financial and business understanding and can assess the relationship between solutions, risks, price and competitiveness.

You thrive at the intersection of tenders, calculation, market and business and have an eye for both the detail in the individual bid and the commercial value of the projects the company chooses to pursue.

Your educational background could be as a building constructor, engineer, architect or CAD technician. If you originally have a crafts background, that is a plus but not a requirement.

Leadership experience is an advantage, but more important is that you want to develop as a leader and are motivated to take responsibility for others. The role entails leadership responsibility for one employee and gives you the opportunity to take the next step in your leadership development

IT and language: You are proficient in MS Office suite, especially Excel and Word, and a power user of Sigma and Bluebeam. It would be advantageous if you are used to using 12Build, but it is not a requirement.

You communicate fluently in Danish both in writing and speaking. English in writing and speaking is a plus.

You as a person

You are structured and focused and are able to maintain an overview – even when pace is high, and several bids, tasks and deadlines require your attention at the same time. You are strong at prioritising and planning so that tasks are handled in the most appropriate order and are solved and delivered on time.

You keep calm in pressured and critical situations and are able to act proactively and solution-oriented when challenges or changes arise along the way. You take ownership, make decisions and naturally follow up so tasks and processes are driven forward securely.

At the same time you are good at building relationships and communicate professionally and credibly with directors, colleagues, clients, consultants and other collaborators. You thrive in a role with responsibility and influence, where there is a short path from idea and decision to action.

Kjær Knudsen offers you

You will become part of the Nordics’ largest construction group within roofing and facade and at the same time an organization with a flat structure, short decision paths and a lot of freedom under responsibility. There is a focus on decent working conditions and on creating a workplace where employees thrive and have the opportunity to develop.

Professionalism, fellowship and responsibility are central values in daily life. The professional engagement goes hand in hand with a good collegial environment, where there is also room for social activities and a sense of community across the organization.

The workplace is Kjær Knudsen's office in Brøndby.
