Section Manager for Banedanmark's Operations Center

Do you want to lead a society-critical operations function where quick and well-considered decisions are crucial for rail traffic across Denmark?

Banedanmark is seeking a sectional head for Banedanmark's Operations Center, which is a central part of the Traffic Division and the driving force for the national dispatch of rail traffic.

Banedanmark's Operations Center collaborates closely with the railway companies and is responsible for cross-cutting traffic adjustments when unforeseen events occur and train operations must be brought back to normal operation as quickly as possible.

At the same time, Banedanmark is implementing one of the largest changes in Danish railway history through the rollout of the new signaling system. This requires changes to the organization, employees and leaders. Therefore we are looking for a leader who is motivated by delivering results through others, driving change and setting direction in an organization under development.

You will lead a section with 21 employees. You will have two direct reports, including a team leader with personnel responsibility for 19 train controllers who manage the national traffic operations around the clock, year round.

Overall responsibility and ensuring goals

As sectional head you have the overall responsibility for leading and developing the section. You ensure that operations and deliverables are planned, prioritized and continuously optimized so that the section supports a stable and efficient traffic flow.

You will have broad contact surfaces across Banedanmark and in collaboration with external actors. Therefore it is important that you thrive in stakeholder management and are skilled at creating strong and trusting relationships.

Banedanmark's Operations Center has the sector responsibility for the traffic flow, and you must therefore be comfortable making qualified decisions in complex situations where the consequences can affect rail traffic nationwide.

The section's employees are highly specialized professionals whose competencies are essential for daily operations. You succeed in creating the framework for their professionalism to be used in the best possible way, while supporting their wellbeing, motivation and continued development.

As sectional head you will become part of the Operations Center & Customer Information management group, which consists of an area manager and three sectional heads. We emphasize strong cross-functional collaboration, open dialogue and a high shared ambitions level.

In addition, you will have close collaboration with the management group in Traffic Control Centers, which execute the regional and local traffic operations and a number of technical areas in the Maintenance Division.

Operations- and personnel leadership

We are looking for a leader with experience from a larger operations organization, preferably from a 24/7 environment. Experience with personnel management is important, and if you have experience managing managers, it is an advantage.

You have shown that you can create results through others and navigate organizational change. Change management experience is therefore essential, as the section's area of responsibility continues to develop in line with the rollout of the new signaling system and the ambition to create integrated solutions for the traffic flow and the information to passengers.

Experience from operations environments and traffic knowledge is an advantage, but not a requirement. The most important thing is that you can understand complex operational issues and create the right framework for employees' high professional skills to be applied.

You have the ability to create followership and drive tasks forward, even when you do not have formal management responsibility. Therefore you are good at building relationships, involving relevant stakeholders and achieving results through cross-functional collaboration.

At the same time you will play a central role in the continued development of the section and the overall area, Operations Center & Customer Information, as well as the opportunity to make a clear mark on both the organization, collaboration patterns and skills development.

If you do not have a diploma in management or equivalent, we expect that you start the education within the first two years in the position.

Your primary place of work is in the Traffic Tower at Kalvebod Brygge in Copenhagen, right by the Dybbølsbro and Havneholm metro stations. As sectional head you are also expected to be visible in operations and follow up on tasks at relevant locations when the task calls for it.

Salary and terms of employment

As an academic employee you are employed under the applicable collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the state.

The grading is as Chief Consultant with personnel management in accordance with the applicable collective agreement, which you find here and the Employee and Competence Agency's salary overview, which you find here .

Depending on your qualifications and competencies, there is a possibility for negotiation of supplements. The total salary will include an employer-funded pension scheme of 18.07%.

For HK, the employment is governed by the applicable Common Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Public Employees Organizations – The Public Sector Agreement (OAO-S Common Agreement) and the organizational agreement for office workers, laboratory technicians and IT employees.

Depending on your qualifications and competencies, there is a possibility for negotiation of supplements. The total salary will include an employer-funded pension scheme of 16%.
