Senior Software Engineer! Build production software – and help raise the engineering level around you

Cubris develops software that helps rail operators run trains smarter, safer and more sustainably.

As part of Hitachi Rail we are now strengthening our engineering organization and developing Cubris towards a high-performing technological competence center around the GreenSpeed® platform.

We are therefore seeking a Senior Software Engineer who combines strong hands-on development skills with technical ownership.

This is not a role where you are handed a Jira ticket, implement it and move on to the next.

You will have technical responsibility within a product area – from understanding requirements and choosing a solution to coordinating development, identifying risks and delivering robust production software.

What will you work with?

You will, among other things, be

• Designing, developing and delivering production-grade software
• Translating requirements into concrete technical tasks and solutions
• Taking ownership of technical execution and delivery within a product area
• Coordinating development activities across multiple engineers
• Identifying dependencies, blockers and technical risks before they impact delivery
• Challenging unclear requirements constructively
• Actively participating in design discussions and technical reviews
• Designing and documenting architecture at the component level
• Developing and maintaining release pipelines
• Working closely with Product and Quality Engineering
• Mentoring and technically supporting other developers
• Improving code quality, testability, maintainability and delivery practices

The role is intentionally broader than programming itself. As a senior engineer at Cubris you are expected to take responsibility for the outcome – not just your own task .

Who are you?

We are looking for an experienced software engineer with proven experience taking software all the way from requirements to production.

Your technical foundation should include, among other things

• Strong skills in C#/.NET
• Docker/container experience
• Azure DevOps Cloud
• Solid understanding of software design and clean code
• Testing and code quality
• CI/CD and modern software delivery
• Debugging and performance
• Databases and data access

Experience with .NET MAUI, Blazor, Android/device-based UI or embedded UI solutions is relevant for parts of the GreenSpeed® environment and will be an advantage.

But technical competences are not enough.

You must also be able to create momentum when requirements are not perfect, make qualified technical decisions and make the engineers you work with better. Experience in driving technical initiatives is therefore important – without necessarily having had formal people management responsibility.
