Consultant in Acute Surgery - Surgical Department A, OUH

A position as a specialist in the section for acute surgery at the Surgical Department A, OUH, Odense, Svendborg and Nyborg Hospitals is available for occupancy on 1 March 2027 or by agreement. The Surgical Department A, Odense University Hospital, is seeking a specialist in surgery, preferably with experience in acute surgery, with an interest in acutely ill surgical patients and a willingness to put the patient first. The Surgical Department A is divided into a pediatric section, a highly specialized upper section, a lower section, an upper section and an acute surgery section.

The Surgical Department A is in the midst of a major development and restructuring in the acute area, where there are currently several focus areas being developed, including more operating beds, an emergency clinic and an emergency ward, all under a standalone section with its own chief physician and head nurse. The acute section in Odense is under continued development.

The build-up is well underway, and the section currently participates in tasks in FAM, rounds in the acute ward, an acute clinic and two acute beds in the operating room. The combined specialist staffing will be gradually expanded towards the New OUH.

Region of Southern Denmark collaborates with the Special Council in Surgery to strengthen the field of acute surgery, where Surgical Department A is an important piece in this process. We therefore expect that you are either professionally trained within acute surgery or will, in collaboration with the department, undertake further training in the acute surgical field.

The position primarily involves work in acute surgery, but depending on competencies and professional wishes can be combined with a sub-function in other of our professional areas. We are seeking a specialist, preferably with experience in acute surgery, who prioritizes professionalism, quality in work and the good patient pathway. The position requires good collaboration skills with our motivated and engaged staff. We prioritize the education of younger doctors, continuing education of colleagues as well as research and development within the acute surgical area.

Department A participates in student teaching at the University of Southern Denmark and welcomes every semester medical students who participate in both day shifts and on-call work. Research activity in the department is growing, and we would like a candidate with research experience and a desire to develop the acute surgical research in the department. You will have a main employment on the Odense matriculation, with five on-call shifts: standby, back-up, FAM on-call, intermediate on-call and pre-call. The position entails, as a starting point, 12-shift on-call presence.

Salary and terms of employment The region is obliged to inform you of the starting salary for the position. You will be told basic salary, centrally fixed allowances and pension in the link below. In addition to the starting salary, the pay may include any negotiated allowances depending on the position, your experience and qualifications.

Starting salary for positions in Region of Southern Denmark

Remuneration is paid according to the collective agreement entered into between the trade union and Region of Southern Denmark. If you are not already employed in Region of Southern Denmark, there is a 3-month trial period.
