About the job

We are seeking a specialist in cardiology who wants to join our professional community, as well as contribute to developing and shaping research in the Department of Cardiac Diseases in collaboration with a well-functioning research unit at Sygehus Sønderjylland.

The position is desired to be filled on 1 March 2027 or by arrangement.

Are you keen to become part of the team in a well-functioning department with focus on high professional standards, development, education, research and job satisfaction? Then we would like to hear from you.

The clinical part

The Department of Cardiac Diseases is an autonomous department with its own medical conferences and independent cardiology on-call and backup on-call. The department consists of about 100 employees, currently 12 specialists and a varying number of junior doctors in training posts (HU cardiology, intro, KBU programs, and HU in other specialties).

The department is characterized by a good working environment and high staff as well as patient satisfaction. We place high value on education, collaboration, professional sparring and collegiality. We rank highly in evaluations from both students and early-career doctors

The Cardiology ward at Åbenrå has 22 beds, and adjacent to the ward there is also a cardiac medical day hospital. Acute patients are admitted at FAM.

The Cardiology outpatient clinic in Aabenraa sees about 26,000 visits per year, including

  • Large echocardiography outpatient clinic incl. TEE activity, GUCH-outpatient clinic, stress echocardiography and specialized oncology echocardiography.
  • Invasive function with pacemaker implants and exchanges as well as implantation of loop recorders.

At Sønderborg Hospital there is a smaller cardiac outpatient clinic, staffed by a small group of nurses and secretaries. The specialists cover in shifts a day function in the Sønderborg outpatient clinic, where ambulatory controls, echo function, supervision of nurses and supervisory function for the medical ward and intensive care unit are handled on weekdays 8-15.

We work closely with Department B, OUH and have weekly videoconference meetings within the areas of endocarditis, valvular disease and ischemic heart disease.

Our scheduling is flexible, and we are open to individual wishes regarding work organization.

You will join the cardiology on-call team, covered by specialists and residents in cardiology. There is a presence duty from 08:00 to 21:00 with subsequent on-call from home with 30 minutes' notice.

The main location is the Åbenrå site. There may be 1-2 working days per month at the Sønderborg site.

The research is therefore closely integrated in the clinical daily life and is organized in close collaboration with the Institute for Regional Health Research at the University of Southern Denmark. There are about 70 researchers employed across the hospital's departments and across professional groups. The research work is supported by a central research service that assists with advice in all phases of the research process such as fundraising, statistics, and data management.

The research is anchored in Cardiology, and the research work includes independent research, professional development, researcher education, teaching including examinations, supervision, assessment work as well as contributing to building a new research unit.
