About the job

Høje-Taastrup Municipality is one of the country’s fastest-growing municipalities and is in a state of significant development. The municipality attracts especially families with children, and the population is expected to rise further in the coming years. Høje-Taastrup has high ambitions and invests purposefully to ensure that all children and young people learn and thrive, and it is a fundamental task that more choose the local public school.

Across the School and PPR area, there are several strategic initiatives and a clear political interest. The area is also characterized by a need for clear prioritization and management to create coherence between ambitions, operations, and resources. We are working strategically to strengthen the general education area, and the political vision is that children and young people who can benefit from being in the general education sector should be there. It is about the formation and education of the next generations, which is the cornerstone of our society.

As an important element, all schools in Høje-Taastrup Municipality work with project-based learning as part of the Future School, which will be an important focus for you and the rest of the SPC in collaboration with the schools. We have therefore opened new innovative schools/departments in recent years and expect to expand further with a school in the western part of the municipality.

So you want to lead a staff team with high expertise in a strategic key function that supports the management and ensures governance, development, and quality in the efforts for children and young people? Do you have a strong strategic understanding and can translate political goals into concrete actions that create quality and coherence across professional areas and domains as well as value for citizens?

...and are you motivated to ensure clear and inclusive leadership in an area in great development and where SPC actively contributes? Then the position may be right for you.

As head of the staff you will be responsible for the professional and strategic support and development of a team of about 8 employees, who are both generalists with varying seniority and experience and professional consultants with a particular professional focus within the school area. You will also become part of the strategic leadership of the School and PPR center together with the center manager, the administration manager, and the PPR manager.

Your primary areas of responsibility will be

  • Lead and develop the staff function – including personnel management, professional leadership, and strategic development of a team of consultants who work with political servicing, leadership support, analysis, development and implementation tasks, as well as more school-related consultancy tasks.
  • Ensure governance and quality – including development, budget process, impact analyses, follow-up and quality assurance of the centre’s strategic initiatives.
  • Take care of the overall project management for participation in central projects such as the overall capacity task in the school and PPR area and projects with external partners.
  • Coordinate and quality assure political products and support the implementation of political decisions across the organization.
  • Be a close sparring partner for the center manager and the rest of the center leadership and actively contribute to strategic development and organizational changes.
  • Contribute to the work of school leadership by supporting their work in various contexts.

You will become an important player in the development of the municipality’s entire school system, and it is therefore important that you actively engage in making the municipality’s public schools an attractive option for the local community, including supporting quality and high professionalism.

The staff is a central support function in the School and PPR center. The team works closely with the center manager and the other center leadership and contributes to ensuring that the organization has the right framework to deliver the core task. The staff handles a broad range of tasks and, in addition to the above, is responsible for complaint handling, evaluation tasks, quality development, and the coordination of the centre’s budget process as well as planning and execution of professional events in the centre and across the school and PPR area.

As head of the staff you will be an important sparring partner for the center manager and a driving force in creating coherence and direction in the very diverse school landscape – from village schools to schools in disadvantaged residential areas, a high share of reception students, and a diverse population composition.

You will be part of a strong and ambitious professional community with skilled colleagues, where trust, collaboration, and personal relationships are highly valued. You will notice this by having a lot of freedom to drive the tasks yourself, and by us professionally daring to challenge each other. We spend time on professional sparring and work in close collaboration to solve tasks. In addition, we care about each other and strive to make work enjoyable and engaging.

We are looking for you who

  • Have knowledge of and experience from the public school sector
  • Have a strong strategic understanding and analytical abilities that can translate political goals into concrete actions that create quality and coherence across professional areas and domains
  • Have an understanding of municipal governance and the ability to create direction, coherence, and prioritization in a complex organization – both internally in the staff and in daily collaboration with, among others, PPR, schools and SFOs
  • Are strong communicators – both orally and in writing
  • Are structured and able to make decisions even under pressure, but also flexible in a politically governed context
  • Possess empathy and have a trust-based leadership approach and can create a good working environment
  • Can see yourself as a leader of staff consultants and consultants with school-related tasks, who have a broad range of tasks and different expertise, and where professional leadership occurs in close interaction with employees and other professional leaders

Your educational background is not decisive, but you probably have an academic background, experience with project management, and solid and experience-based knowledge of public administration - and preferably municipal administration. If you have leadership experience, that is a plus, but not a requirement. If you do not have a leadership degree, we expect you to be willing to pursue one with us.

We offer

  • An exciting leadership position with great influence on the strategic and professional development of our efforts and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • To become part of an experienced and ambitious leadership group, with good opportunities for professional and personal development
  • A modern workplace in the newly built and award-winning town hall close to Høje-Taastrup Station with short commuting times, good parking facilities, open office landscapes, a canteen, and a smoke-free environment
