About the job

Would you like to gain experience in research and contribute to developing and supporting research within military psychology and health at a time when the Defense is prominent in many people’s minds? Then read on below.

We are seeking 2 student assistants for the Veterans Centre's Knowledge Center to assist in various research projects on topics such as PTSD, moral injury, and prevention and treatment of aftereffects.

About us

The Knowledge Center is the research department of the Veterans Centre and is part of the Personnel Command. In the department we have researchers, senior researchers, PhD students, data managers and student assistants. Our main task is to conduct research that broadens the veteran effort. This means that we all base our work on research projects about soldiers’ health, welfare and particular circumstances, but we are also a diverse research group with different approaches to the field.

We work both quantitatively and qualitatively and work with register-based research, experimental methods, interviews and questionnaire surveys.

In the Knowledge Center we are 12 employees, of whom 7 are researchers; in addition we have data managers, student assistants, a research leader and a military chief. Most of the department have a background in psychology, medicine or public health, but we span widely and value and learn from each other’s differences.

We collaborate closely with the other departments of the Veterans Centre, which besides the research department include the Military Psychological Department, the Department for Counseling and Rehabilitation, as well as a staff, and together make up about 170 employees nationwide. We also naturally work closely with other parts of the Defence and with military and civilian research institutions both nationally and internationally.

Our department is characterized by a large commitment and curiosity about our field, research in general and others’ perspectives. We have a good sense of community, characterized by humor and helpfulness.

About the position

As a student assistant in our department you will have the opportunity to gain experience with different scientific methods and ways of working.

The tasks will be diverse but may include

  • Conducting systematic literature searches and reviewing the research literature in close collaboration with the researchers
  • Setting up and sending out questionnaires
  • Entering questionnaire responses
  • Telephone interviews
  • Entering questionnaire survey data
  • Transcription tasks

Depending on competencies and interests there will be opportunities to perform statistical investigations and actively participate in the analysis work, and there may be opportunities for co-authorship on scientific articles.

There is an average of 10-15 hours of work per week, i.e., some weeks more or fewer hours, with flexibility regarding scheduling during exam periods. There is good potential to do part of the work from home, but most weeks you will need to come into our department in Ringsted one day. There are good transport connections from, for example, Copenhagen and Odense, where many of the department’s other employees also come from.

About you

We imagine that you are studying psychology, public health, medicine, data science or similar and we would prefer that you are at the bachelor level of your program. You have a budding interest in research, including the underlying data processing.

We are looking for an employee who works thoroughly, purposefully and structurally, and who has a good overview. You have drive and can work independently.

We emphasize that you have good IT skills and an interest in data processing. It is a great advantage if you have experience with statistical programming from your studies or from another student job, e.g. with SPSS, R, Python, SAS or STATA.

You should be willing to work on research-supporting tasks; i.e. systematic literature searches, setting up questionnaire batteries, preparing questionnaire data for further analysis, etc. You will receive relevant training and sparring on your tasks, as we base it on your current competencies and the student assistant team as a whole possesses a portfolio of tasks that covers the need.
