About the job

The tasks

Your schedule consists of

  • Danish teacher with class teacher duties in 1st grade – the intention is that you should have the class up to and including 5th grade
  • opportunity for lessons in the year group with co-teaching with your Danish colleagues – if you are a reading advisor, the rest of your timetable will be reserved for these tasks
  • possibly period subject (local elective in 7th grade with your own chosen topic) two lessons split across the 7th year group.

The rest of your timetable will follow your main subject areas and other competencies.

Our average teaching load is 24 lessons.

You will be part of a class team consisting of a Danish teacher, a mathematics teacher, a kindergarten-class leader from the previous school year who is involved in all lessons in the first grade, and the school pedagogue. You work closely on the students at the weekly scheduled team meeting. There is also a scheduled co-teaching meeting every week.

All teachers receive 30 hours for professional sparring (shared preparation for co-teaching), and a further 30 hours are allocated to team meetings.

We have a meeting day on Wednesdays from 14:00-16:00 with different agendas. It ranges from PR meetings to subject team meetings. We also have quarterly meetings, where in your team you work on updating your student records. At these meetings there is access to help from our internal and external resource persons.

You will have a colleague as mentor in the first year, and if you are newly qualified your teaching hours are set to 24 lessons for the first two years.

We work in all classes with approaches from the A-guide courses: Common visible classroom rules and routines for your own class, daily timetable and lesson plan on the board, use of bells/time timers and being ready in the classroom before the lesson starts. You should therefore also prepare to participate in a four-day A-guide course, run by Frejaskolen’s competence center.

We offer

We offer a school with a manageable size where students, teachers and leadership have close daily contact with each other. It gives us a good and secure collaborative platform also in relation to the parents.

The school has two well-functioning and active student councils, a green council, a council for 'students, safety and teaching' (RESU), a morning assembly for all students every month, where the classes take turns leading the assembly, friendship classes, theme week across the school, immersion days every month, cabin trips and a camp for the 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th grades, a school ball for all students, etc. In addition we have a strong collegial community with a focus on professionalism.

We expect that you

  • are a trained teacher
  • will work purposefully and clearly with classroom management in close collaboration in the class- and subject-team about the students and their learning and well-being
  • are approachable and will actively engage in collaboration with parents, students, colleagues and leadership.

About us

Den Classenske Legatskole is a public school located close to Rådhuspladsen and the inner city’s many cultural institutions and offerings, and we have, among other things, a good collaboration and partnership with Copenhagen Museum. The school is two-track from kindergarten class to 9th grade with a little over 500 capable and happy students and 50 engaged staff consisting of teachers, pedagogues, aides, technical services etc.

There are good traditions at the school, such as our school parties and gala, which are carried by a well-functioning student council. We emphasize dialogue and inclusion, and focus on relationships and the learners and inclusive communities, and we also work to continuously strengthen team collaboration.

Our academic results are really good, and we achieve this partly thanks to a good learning environment supported by skilled mentors. Teachers generally work in either the lower or upper school, and there is normally a teacher change after the 5th or 6th grade.

We have an active school board, and we value the trusting collaboration with our engaged parents.

Diverse child communities

In the City of Copenhagen there is a politically adopted ambitious program for more children to participate in the ordinary public school. You can read much more about it here . This is something we will work on at all schools going forward, and it is therefore part of our overall tasks at the school.

Terms of employment

The position is a permanent full-time appointment (37 hours per week) from 1 January 2027. The salary is in accordance with the applicable collective agreement. In connection with the recruitment process we obtain child safety and criminal background checks and take references from the most recent employment.

Further information

You can get more information about us and about the vacant position by contacting department head Camilla Lønquist Jæger or school principal Lars Rye Vadmand at 33 66 21 90. You can also read more about the school here .
