About the job

Do you want to lead a new team that will create supply security for the Danish Defence, predictability for the drone industry and top-class international collaboration? Then here is your opportunity to build a team from scratch – and make your mark on one of the areas in the Defence where development is fastest.

About us

In the UAS and Counter-UAS Business Area we buy, implement, update and operate drones for the entire Defence. We work closely with the Defence's users, the industry and international partners, e.g. NORDEFCO, EDA and NATO. The development is rapid, and you will have the opportunity to influence one of the most significant technological transformations in Danish defence. It also means that our own organisation is evolving in step with both the technology and the size of our portfolio of tasks.

Therefore we are now creating a team that will handle the cross-cutting coordination and cross-cutting tasks in the business area. The team will be responsible for our work with the Defence's drone plan, coordination and case handling of our international collaborations in the drone area, as well as further development of our internal IT support, including leadership information. In addition to you, the team will consist of three lawyers and an IT and communications officer, whom we are recruiting in parallel.

About the position

Since the team and the position are newly created, you have good opportunities to shape the content of the role and the approach to the tasks. As team leader you report to the deputy head of the business area, who has personnel responsibility for the entire team. This means you can focus your leadership on the tasks and the collaboration: setting direction, prioritising, following up and ensuring the quality of what the team delivers.

You will, among other things, come to

  • lead the establishment of the team's routines, workflows and task portfolio
  • be responsible for daily coordination and quality assurance of the team's task solving
  • establish the team as a reference point in cross-cutting coordination – both internally within FMI and externally towards Defence units, industry and our international partners
  • ensure progress and coherence in the business area's work with the Defence's drone plan and in our international collaborations
  • develop management information and internal IT solutions together with the team's IT and communications officer, so that management gets a stronger basis for decision-making

You should expect travel activity in connection with, among other things, visits to suppliers and Defence units, as well as participation in international meetings.

Leadership with us

At FMI, leadership is not reserved for managers – it is everyone's responsibility. Our leadership is built on FMI's leadership framework, and as team leader you help translate it into practice every day. You lead with the task at the center: you give your colleagues a clear understanding of purpose and boundaries and have trust that they can act autonomously within them.

The team's tasks span all four focus areas in the leadership framework, and you succeed when you make them work together:

  • Results with decisiveness: You set clear goals, prioritise and systematically follow up, so the team delivers quickly and on time.
  • Relationships and togetherness: You make the team feel like part of both the FMI team and the larger group of personnel, industry and international partners.
  • Innovation with courage: You dare to try new ways of working and continuously renew them – and you create a culture where we give each other honest feedback and learn quickly.
  • Stability and credibility: You ensure good governance and solid routines and show that quality and high tempo are not opposites.

In return you get what the leadership framework also obliges us to: support to make decisions, room to test new solutions and the opportunity to develop yourself as a leader.

About you

You have a relevant master's degree – e.g. social sciences or business economics with a specialisation in organisation, leadership, policy or trade and logistics.

We envisage that you

  • have several years of experience with case handling and coordination from a ministry, a agency or another public authority – or equivalent experience that has given you solid knowledge of good public administration
  • have experience in leading tasks and people, e.g. as team leader, project manager or professional coordinator, and want to develop yourself as a leader
  • communicate clearly and confidently in both Danish and English – in writing and speaking, also in international contexts
  • create overview, take responsibility and seek solutions, even when they may be hard to spot
  • be a unifying figure who sets the right tone and creates a culture characterised by trust, honest feedback and a desire to learn

Knowledge of the Defence, drones or international defence cooperation is an advantage, but not a requirement. The most important is that you want to learn the area and to build a strong team from scratch.

Employment terms

The appointment is made in accordance with the current agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organisations for academics in the state (Academic Agreement).

Depending on your qualifications and competencies, there is an opportunity for negotiation of allowances. There is an employer-financed pension scheme attached to the position.

The workplace is in Ballerup.

As an employee within the Ministry of Defence's area you are subject to certain special terms. You must, among other things, be security cleared and maintain the security clearance throughout the employment.

You have as an employee a duty to perform service outside the country's borders, including at units in international operations with a view to participation in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, humanitarian and other similar operations.
