About the job

The Office for Leadership, Communication and Law in the Danish Immigration Service is looking for new colleagues for the Legal Team with strong legal and analytical skills who want to be involved in the machinery where proposed laws, parliamentary questions and government cases take shape.

Who are we?

The Legal Team functions as the Immigration Service's legal unit, and is responsible for coordinating and quality-assuring the Immigration Service's contributions to answers to parliamentary questions, hearings on proposed laws and other types of hearings.

Our team acts as a link between the agency's professional offices and the Ministry of Immigration and Integration's department. We convey complex topics in an understandable way and are responsible for the professional quality when law meets the political process in a field with high political attention.

In addition, we handle a number of different legal tasks, including

  • Legal sparring with the management and the professional offices and preparation of memos etc.
  • Training of employees in the Immigration Service and the rest of the Ministry of Immigration and Integration
  • Handling compensation claims and administration of the Immigration Service's whistleblower scheme
  • Assistance with access to information requests under the Access to Public Records Act

We prioritize a good professional and social community, just as we collaborate closely and share knowledge with one another.

Who are you?

You have a relevant academic degree, e.g. cand.jur. It is an advantage if you have experience with immigration law, process management or hearings from e.g. a ministry or a management secretariat, but this is not a requirement. We are looking for both newly educated and experienced colleagues who want to contribute to a strong and well-functioning legal unit.

Furthermore, we would like you to

  • Have strong legal and analytical abilities
  • Be willing to take on the role of liaison, negotiator and communicator between different parts of the Immigration Service and the Ministry of Immigration and Integration’s administration
  • Be good at communicating in writing and orally
  • Have a good overview and be able to handle shifting priorities and deadlines
  • Be curious about politics and news, especially within the immigration area

What do we offer?

In the Legal Team you will master a very broad legal field. The Immigration Service's case areas include among others family reunification, visas, asylum, permanent residence, administrative expulsion and housing of aliens. When rules are translated into practice, it happens in a interplay between administrative law, EU law and Denmark's international commitments, including practice from the EU Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights.

With us you will come into the engine room when the Immigration Service contributes to government cases, proposed laws and parliamentary answers. You will have a coordinating and quality-assuring role that gives you the opportunity to make your professional mark on the final product, which is approved by the agency's management.

In addition to your colleagues in the team, your closest collaborators will be the Immigration Service's management and the rest of the senior management. The position will develop you broadly and is an obvious stepping stone to several different career paths.
