About the job

We are seeking a nurse for the Medical Diseases, Cancer Diseases inpatient ward in Sønderborg.

We have been given an add-on to strengthen the local palliative advisory capacity to the primary sector. We therefore seek a nurse starting 01.12.26. The position is, as a rule, 37 hours per week.

We are staffed for 14 beds. 2 for oncological patients and 12 for palliative patients; when there is space we also receive general medical patients.

Our palliative patients who are terminally registered are admitted directly to the department with complex problems such as: nausea, pain, dyspnea, constipation or social problems.

The oncological beds are intended for patients undergoing oncological treatment who need admission, e.g. due to side effects of chemotherapy or immunotherapy.

In daily practice we have a close collaboration with the department's physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and discharge coordinators. In addition, some of our nearest partners are Team for Palliative Care, Oncology Outpatient Clinic and Hospice of Southern Jutland in Haderslev.

We place high value on multidisciplinary collaboration. Every day there is a morning meeting with the department's doctors, where today's patients, ward rounds are prioritized and planned. The department's permanent staff consists of doctors and nurses as well as social and health care assistants. The atmosphere in the department is pleasant and calm, even when we may be busy.

  • We place high value on a good working environment, as well as helpfulness, good humor, and good collegiality.
  • We want to be able to offer our patients individualized nursing care of high quality.
  • Keywords in our care are dignity, trust, and quality of life.
  • Through dialogue with the patient and their relatives we will create a treatment environment based on security, cooperation and quality.
  • We have designated patient care and meet for a timeout in the middle of the day, where we evaluate the day’s ongoing work and focus on helping each other.
  • We value shared reflection concerning current issues.

We imagine that you are

  • professionally engaged and preferably with experience and particular interest in palliation
  • focused on the whole person and immerse yourself in the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual issues around the individual patient and their relatives
  • responsible and calm
  • broad-minded and have situational awareness as well as good empathy
  • good at prioritizing and has a good overview
  • interested in and capable of working both mono- and interprofessionally

We offer

  • orientation program, introductory nurses and ongoing follow-up
  • weekend shifts in a fixed rotation. We work 8 hours with either weekend shift every 2nd or 3rd weekend
  • wish plans with possibility to influence your own work schedule, with focus on both ward operation and the individual employee's private life
  • regular supervision with a psychologist four times a year
  • a community and collaboration beyond the ordinary
