In Herlev Municipality we are making a massive commitment to the public school system and are investing 21 million DKK annually in the municipal schools from 2026. The funds go, among other things, to a two-teacher arrangement in Danish and mathematics, professional development, and more adults in after-school care (SFO) and clubs. It gives you better frameworks to run high-quality activities and build strong relationships. And thus make a difference for the children in both school, SFO, and club.

In addition, from the school year 26/27 we have established local schools on each site with close and engaging leadership and a strong local community.

A day with the children at the center

At Birkholmskolen we are seeking a resource pedagogue who will help support pupils in the early years from 0th to 4th grade who, for various reasons, need extra support, guidance or special pedagogical interventions in their school and leisure life.

The tasks will vary and be based on the needs of the children. You must therefore be able to see yourself in a daily life where you work across year groups and classes, and where the tasks can change in line with the children's needs. The majority of your hours will be placed in the school part, but you will also have hours in SFO.

It is important for us that a clear through-line is created between school and SFO for children who need an extra hand or special support. We want coherence in the children's daily lives, so they experience familiarity, security and adults who work in the same direction – both in teaching, during breaks and in the leisure part.

Your tasks

As a resource pedagogue you will be an important part of the work to create participation opportunities and good frameworks for the children who need something special.

Your tasks may include, among other things

• supporting pupils who need extra pedagogical support during the school day and in SFO;
• working on children's social skills, relationships and participation in communities;
• supporting children in handling challenges, transitions, conflicts and difficult situations;
• working both individually with children and in smaller groups;
• supporting participation in the class and year-group communities;
• creating coherence and familiarity in the child’s day across school and SFO;
• collaborating closely with teachers, pedagogues, parents and relevant professionals;
• contributing with pedagogical observations, reflections and concrete actionable steps.

You must be able to move between different tasks and be curious about what it takes to help each individual child as well as possible.

• are a trained pedagogue and have experience with children who need special pedagogical support;
• have a strong relationship-oriented and resourceful view of children;
• can see beyond the child’s behavior and be curious about what the child is trying to tell;
• are clear, present and good at creating safe relationships;
• can work independently while also engaging in close and committed collaboration with your colleagues;
• are flexible and thrive in a daily life where tasks can vary;
• can translate pedagogical reflections into concrete actions in practice;
• have an eye for both the individual child’s needs and the child’s ability to be part of the community;
• contribute with engagement, humor and good spirits.

We place emphasis on you primarily wanting to be an important adult in the children's daily life and being able to see opportunities rather than limitations.

About Birkholmskolen

Birkholmskolen is an independent, two-track school with primary levels 0-4 and upper levels 5-9. We are in the process of establishing strong local school communities with close and present leadership and a joint focus on creating good conditions for all children.

We have a close collaboration with PPR, family advisers, case workers and other authorities in the municipality.

Application deadline

The application deadline is Sunday, 29 November 2026. We conduct interviews on an ongoing basis.

Salary and employment conditions

Employment is in accordance with the applicable collective agreement. A child protection and criminal background check will be obtained for employees hired at the schools in Herlev Municipality.

The position is 37 hours per week. Start date 1 January 2027 – and preferably earlier if you have the opportunity.

Herlev Municipality has smoke-free working hours.
