A LITTLE ABOUT ME

I am a cheerful and lively teenager with muscular dystrophy. I sit in an electric wheelchair and use NIV mask at night and occasionally during the day as needed.

I live in Skovby (8464 Galten) between Aarhus and Silkeborg with my parents and my younger brother.

I go to school and live a completely normal teenage life: I love being creative, playing computer games, listening to music, hanging out with friends and laughing with my family. Humor fills our home. We say things as they are, and the mood is honest, warm and full of laughter.

My approach to muscular dystrophy is : Yes! It’s really annoying sometimes, but even if you sit in a wheelchair, you can still have a normal everyday life running smoothly.

My message is : It’s NOT sad for me – I was born like this and don’t know anything else! I go to a normal school and am a normal child.

My motto : It’s the legs that are the problem – NOT the brain!

JOB DESCRIPTION

I am looking for a handicapped helper for an unskilled team in a position of 12 hours per week. The shift is every Thursday night from 18:15 to 06:30, and it is awake night shifts.

You will be employed in a self-supporting team, and there may be extra shifts due to illness, vacation, etc. as the team is self-supporting.

Shifts during the day.

Weekdays

• You will drive me to school in my disability bus.
• You are with me during the school hours. I also have a school helper, so there are two of us in the lessons.
• You help with the small things that make everyday life run smoothly.

Tasks during the day

• Be my arms and legs: personal care, help at meals, and all the practical little tasks.
• The quick “every 2 minutes” tasks: fetch snacks, cross legs, move hair from the forehead, turn on/off phone and PC and all sorts of other small things.
• Have a sense of being a “fly on the wall” when I need quiet.
• Participate in activities outside the home, leisure life, social events and the outings I want to go on.

• You have humor, good energy and can respond well. I have speech needs and love a quick comeback.
• You have an inner radar and good situational awareness: you sense when to step in and when to step back and be quiet.
• You thrive in a home with honesty, laughter and straight-forward, no-nonsense communication.
• No formal education is perfectly fine; the most important is personality, responsibility and calm hands.
