About the job
Your tasks at Nævnenes Hus
In a democratic rule-of-law state it is natural that disagreements about law or facts between citizens, companies and authorities arise from time to time. The independent, court-like boards that Nævnenes Hus secretariat supports contribute to solving these disputes within their areas of competence.
The boards therefore play an important role in the Danish legal system, as they help safeguard the rule of law and ensure trust between citizens, businesses and authorities.
At Nævnenes Hus, which is an agency under the Ministry of Industry, there are currently about 160 lawyers and around 24 law students employed, who every day work to ensure professional and efficient case handling of high quality. Nævnenes Hus secretariat serves 18 court-like boards in the form of both appeal boards, disciplinary boards and private-law dispute boards. In addition, the agency is responsible for an administrative appeal instance and a mandatory mediation instance.
We are currently recruiting team leaders for our two areas: Two team leaders for Environment & Energy and one for Planning, Construction & Business. As a team leader you will play a central role in ensuring both professional quality and smooth operations. You will lead the professional development, support employees' legal competencies and create the framework for a strong professional and social community.
You will become part of the overall management team at Nævnenes Hus, and you will also join the area management within either Environment & Energy or Planning, Construction & Business. You report to the relevant area manager. When you start, we will ensure that you receive a good introduction to the organization, the tasks and the management role, so you have a solid starting point for succeeding as a team leader.
You can read more about the three teams' tasks here
Team Environment
The team consists of 20 employees who secretariat Environment and Food Appeals Board, and who handle cases relating to complaints about decisions made by municipalities and state authorities in the broad environment area. The tasks include challenging legal-professional issues within, among others, the Environmental Protection Act, the Raw Materials Act, the Soil Contamination Act, the Animal Husbandry Act and the Marine Environment Act.
The work is characterized by legal assessments requiring technical-professional insight and understanding. As team leader you must be motivated by this link, and you must be able to assist in ensuring the correct technically-professional case information in legal appeal cases in the environmental law area. In addition, the cases often touch on current societal issues that may attract greater public attention.
Team Access to Information
You will have management responsibility for 12 employees. The team handles access-to-information cases and complaints about access to information under the Danish Public Administration Act, the Freedom of Information Act, and the Environmental Information Act. The tasks range from legal assessment to dialogue with the relevant professional areas so that requests are answered correctly and within deadlines.
We are looking for you who both want to lead in a field with many cases and tight deadlines, where you can create structure and momentum - even when cases are complex. It is not a prerequisite that you have in-depth knowledge of the access-to-information area, but you must be able to understand the legal issues and actively participate in the special task solving that the team handles.
Team Food
The team consists of nine employees who secretariat the Environment and Food Appeals Board. The cases relate to a range of agricultural support schemes, food, fisheries, veterinary, animal welfare and conditionality. A common feature of the cases is that EU law plays a central role, and that the case processing largely takes its starting point from EU regulations. It provides a professionally broad portfolio, where understanding and application of EU law is a recurring element, which in interaction with numerous national regulations requires strong legal skills.
As team leader you must be able to set direction for the team's work and support the employees' professional development, while you yourself contribute to case processing. The role therefore requires an interest in EU law and a desire to combine management tasks with legal casework.
Your primary tasks as team leader
Common to the positions is that you will manage the daily leadership, professionally, operationally and personnel-wise. Your tasks will include, among others:
- set direction and be a daily sparring partner for the staff
- ensure efficient case processing of high quality, including well-functioning professional leadership and leading the professional case work
- develop employees' professionalism through ongoing sparring, feedback and knowledge sharing
- take control, prioritize and monitor the team’s tasks, including basic operations management with a focus on quality and case handling
- focus on motivation, collaboration and contribute to an ambitious and good working environment
- contribute to the overall management task across the organization and translate shared strategic initiatives into concrete results
Your profile
You are a trained lawyer and have solid legal understanding and interest in administrative law issues. You are motivated by the management task, but you master the legal method yourself and can translate your legal theory into practice. It would be an advantage if you have management experience, but the most important is that you want and can lead and develop employees.
We especially emphasize that you
- Have a strong legal professionalism and desire to actively bring it into play in daily case handling and professional sparring
- Are focused on professional development and can provide constructive feedback, challenge legal assessments and help employees find good solutions to complex problems
- Can create direction and momentum by setting clear goals, prioritizing tasks and following up
- Have an eye for both operations and quality and can ensure that efficient case handling goes hand in hand with thoroughness and legal quality
- Have good collaboration skills and actively contribute to knowledge sharing and coherence across the team and organization
If you have questions about the positions, you are welcome to contact Area Manager Sheila Dyhr at tel. 72 40 59 26 or Area Manager Malene Buus Christensen at tel. 72 40 57 97.
We offer
- A strong legal environment with team spirit and relationships at the forefront. It’s about results that we achieve by mutual help and what each individual can contribute to reach the common goals.
- Well-functioning frameworks for handling appeal cases so we can immerse ourselves in the professionalism, while at the same time being efficient with a strong focus on the task.
- An informal and dialog-based environment where we look out for one another and take responsibility for the tasks and each other.
