About the job

Would you like to help strengthen children's language, eagerness to read, and their encounter with the library – for both toddlers and schoolchildren?

We are looking for a engaged and proactive employee who will have a unique opportunity to make a difference for children in selected nurseries and to join a strong collaboration with daycare centers and schools – with a focus on disadvantaged residential areas.

We are looking for you who thrives in a varied everyday life, where you will both be proactive, collaborative and creatively communicating in your approach to strengthening children's language development and supporting their love of reading.

The position combines local engagement in Tingbjerg with cross-city efforts across Copenhagen Libraries. Your main tasks will partly be outreach work with BogTryg, which is an early language initiative in the nursery and school/daycare collaboration.

Early Language Initiative (BogTryg)

As part of the BogTryg project you will be responsible for conducting language- and reading-enjoyment creating activities for nursery children in disadvantaged housing areas. You will join a small professional team that works closely across districts and libraries and collaborates with day facilities, parents and local libraries.

Your tasks will include, among others

  • Visit nurseries and work with language-stimulating activities through side-learning of the pedagogical staff
  • Inspire and collaborate with pedagogical staff on children's language development, books for the target group, the physical language environment in the room, and how it interacts
  • Evaluate and adjust activities in collaboration with the professional team and the institutions
  • Plan library visits for nurseries and build bridges between institutions, parents and the library

School and daycare cooperation

You will become an important part of our local school and daycare cooperation in Tingbjerg, where you – together with colleagues – work to strengthen children's and youths' love of reading and participation.

Your tasks will include, among others

  • Join the local school cooperation, school teams and planning of relevant activities
  • Participate in and run regular offerings to day institutions, e.g., Mini Library and reading initiatives for 0-6-year-olds
  • Help develop and implement events and courses that support reading enthusiasm and participation among children and young people
  • Support the library's hosting role, inspire and guide users and contribute to the community in the building

We expect you to

  • Have documented experience with communicating to children
  • Have documented experience with library operations and with Cicero

In addition, we emphasize that you

  • Are passionate about children's literature
  • Have knowledge of/experience with children aged 1-2 years and preferably from disadvantaged housing areas
  • Have experience with collaboration with daycare institutions – preferably nurseries
  • Can coordinate and thrive being out in institutions and working across the city
  • Are flexible and able to work independently
  • Are a team player and a good collaborative partner – both internally and externally
  • Have a relevant education (librarian D.B., cand.scient.bibl., pedagogue or similar)

Employment terms

The position is 32-37 hours per week, evenly distributed between the two areas of effort.

The position is temporary until 31 December 2029 with the possibility of extension.

We have weekend opening hours (both Saturday and Sunday), where you as a rule will join the duty roster with weekend shifts every 5 weeks.

Your primary workplace will be Tingbjerg Library & Culture House. You should expect a flexible workweek with changing hours and tasks across institutions and libraries in the city.

Employment is via the applicable collective agreement, and a pediatric certificate and reference check will be obtained in connection with the employment.
