About the job

Do you want to lead in translating research-based knowledge into concrete solutions for authorities and the construction industry? Can you bridge researchers, authorities and industry stakeholders – and translate complex knowledge into solutions that work in practice?

Your tasks

As Chief for IMPACT you will play a central role in developing and anchoring BUILD as a strong knowledge partner for authorities, the construction industry and foundations, and you will become a key person in ensuring that the research at BUILD is translated into usable knowledge and solutions that can be used in practice and contribute to societal value. You will help realize the institute's strategic Roadmap towards 2030 , where you will have a special responsibility to formulate and realize goals under strategic area 3: Impact in society .

The position is located at BUILD Campus Copenhagen, Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environment at Aalborg University, where you join the institute's top management and report directly to the institute director.

You will have overall responsibility for the institute's government relations, where collaboration with the Danish Agency for Housing and Building, and the development of new collaborations with other public authorities and central actors in and around the construction sector, are core tasks. This means that you must ensure clear processes, stable collaborative relations and high-quality professional deliveries.

You translate external needs into concrete activities, projects and advisory tasks at BUILD, so that the research environments have clear frameworks and direction for their contribution to government relations and advisory services.

A substantial part of the job as Chief for IMPACT is to further develop BUILD’s portfolio of guidelines, knowledge products and other research-based solutions for the construction industry. You set a direction for the development of new formats and forms of collaboration that enable translating complex research into practically applicable knowledge. You do this by identifying needs in the industry, bringing together relevant research environments and ensuring that the knowledge BUILD creates is up-to-date, accessible and value-creating for authorities, foundations and practitioners in the construction sector.

You will also become a clear voice for BUILD in central professional and strategic networks, committees, panels and collaboration fora, where you will represent the institute's expertise and strategic position. Here you will contribute to strengthening BUILD’s visibility, creating new opportunities for collaboration and building bridges between research, authorities and practice.

You will also be responsible for developing strategic partnerships with foundations and other central actors, e.g., by helping shape larger initiatives and acting as project owner or strategic lead on applications and cross-cutting projects that support the institute's ambitions for societal impact.

The position is anchored in Copenhagen, where you, together with the three section heads in Copenhagen, contribute to daily management, provide direction and cohesion and help develop an attractive working environment. You will also be an important link between BUILD’s activities in Copenhagen and Aalborg, and you will take on a role in ensuring coordination and common direction across geography and disciplines.

Finally you will have direct personnel responsibility for an IMPACT team of roughly 4-6 employees. You must create clear frameworks for the team's work, ensure close collaboration with BUILD’s research environments and external partners, and support employees’ professional and personal development.

How you become successful

You succeed in the role when BUILD in 2-3 years stands stronger as a knowledge partner for authorities and the construction industry: government relations are built on strong relationships and well-functioning processes, new guidelines and knowledge products are launched, and the institute has increased its visibility in central professional and strategic fora. At the same time, new partnerships with authorities, foundations and other actors are established, contributing to greater societal impact.

Your competencies

You have deep and broad knowledge of the construction industry and construction research. Your professional background can be technical, social-science, legal or humanities. We prefer a PhD, but it is not essential. What matters is that you have solid understanding of construction and relevant research environments and can create well-functioning collaborations between researchers and external stakeholders, so research-based knowledge is brought into play in the right places and at the right time.

You have experience with the political-administrative system and insight into government collaboration or related advisory tasks, where you have been close to development and implementation of policy, strategies or regulation. You are used to navigating complex organizations and collaborations with many stakeholders and different agendas, and you can create structure, overview and clear direction in tasks requiring cross-cut coordination.

You have experience with strategic leadership and preferably people management. You can combine long-term direction with concrete task solving and take responsibility for development areas where professional and political considerations meet. As a leader you set clear goals, follow up and create frameworks where employees can thrive and use their professional skills optimally.

Strong relational and communicative abilities are central. You build trusting relationships with authorities, foundations, industry associations and other partners, understand the importance of industry networks and convey complex professional messages clearly to different audiences. You combine strategic thinking with a pragmatic approach and achieve results through coordination and clear agreements.

As a person you are analytical, proactive and trust-building. You quickly get to grips with new areas, bring different stakeholders together toward common goals and translate strategic ambitions into decisions and solutions. You thrive in alternating between the role of strategic sparring partner, project owner, external representative and close manager of a small team.

The institute's research environments span a wide range and combine technical and social-scientific knowledge in interdisciplinary collaborations, where practice-oriented research and collaboration with the outside world are an integral part of everyday life.

On Campus Copenhagen you will be part of an environment with both researchers and administrative staff, where collaboration and professional sparring are natural parts of the job. Together with the local section heads you contribute to creating a working environment characterized by openness, professional curiosity and clear frameworks for collaboration and development. You will work closely with colleagues in Aalborg and join the institute's overall management, where we share a common focus on strengthening BUILD’s position as a knowledge partner for the built environment.
