About the job

Clinical midwifery supervisor for Aalborg Birth Department

Do you want to use your clinical experience to strengthen professional standards and support colleagues close to the births? We are seeking a clinical midwifery supervisor who can create an overview in complex situations and contribute to a daily life with room for learning, sparring and joint reflection.

The position is 37 hours per week with start on 1 January 2027. You will spend your daily life at Aalborg Birth Department in the Hospital City in Gistrup, where we work together for safe and respectful birth processes for families in Northern Jutland.

About the job As a clinical midwifery supervisor you are a visible professional and collegial support in the department. You are close to colleagues' clinical work and help assess, prioritise and find direction when a process calls for sparring and a shared view. You also contribute to reflection and learning when there is time to stop and look back on a process.

You collaborate with midwives, obstetricians, nurses, social and health professionals and other professions about daily coordination. Based on evidence-based midwifery practice and patient-centered care, you help ensure that the birthing person and family are heard, involved and met with respect.

Your tasks will include among others to

  • Supervise and support midwives and other colleagues in complex and acute clinical situations.
  • Create space for professional reflection and learning through debriefings, case reviews and professional meetings.
  • Contribute to implementing and maintaining clinical guidelines as well as working with quality and patient safety.
  • Participate in planning, coordination and prioritisation of the birth department's daily operations.
  • Contribute to a good working environment through respectful communication, collegial support and a safe collaboration where there is room for questions and doubt.
  • Support care where the birthing person’s and family’s wishes and needs are heard, and their involvement and self-determination are prioritised.

Your profile You are an experienced midwife who would like to bring your professional skills into play through others. You can step in with calmness and clarity, while listening and inviting to joint considerations. You are comfortable engaging in professional dialogues, even when there are differing assessments of a process.

We emphasise that you have

  • A midwifery education and at least five years of clinical experience from a birth department.
  • Strong clinical competencies within obstetrics, birth processes and handling of acute situations.
  • Experience with or clear motivation for supervision, teaching and professional sparring.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in interactions with colleagues, patients and partners.
  • Ability to remain calm, structured and have an overview when the situation requires quick decisions.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to involve relevant colleagues across professions and functions.

You work professionally and properly and take responsibility for your professional assessments. At the same time you are aware of when multiple perspectives are necessary. The way you meet others builds trust, so both uncertainty and mistakes can be shared and used for learning.

Culture and collaboration At Aalborg Birth Department you will become part of a strong midwifery professional environment with engaged colleagues and extensive experience to draw on. We help each other through both good and demanding shifts and prioritise professional sparring and close cross-disciplinary collaboration.

There is room here for serious discussions, new ideas and humor in everyday life. We want a culture where we are curious about each other’s perspectives and develop practice within the framework of high patient safety.

As part of the North Jutland Region we work with the iTOP values: Influence, Trust, Decency and Professionalism. This is reflected in our expectations for collaboration and in the influence and trust you encounter in your work.

Introduction and terms of employment You will receive a thorough introduction to the function, workflows and collaboration interfaces at Aalborg Birth Department. Structured onboarding and close professional sparring give you the opportunity to gradually settle into the role. There is also the possibility of ongoing continuing education and competence development within midwifery, supervision and quality work.

The work is arranged in 12-hour shifts with both day and night shifts. Night shifts are awake shifts with presence in the department throughout the shift. The duty roster is planned in dialogue with regard to both operations and your work life. Salary and employment terms follow the collective agreement between the North Jutland Region and the Midwives Association.

There is one vacant position of 37 hours per week starting 1 January 2027. Workplace is Aalborg Birth Department, Hospital City 1, 9260 Gistrup.

Application and contact Send your application, CV and relevant documents via the North Jutland Region’s online recruitment system. Please tell us what motivates you to apply for the role, and how you will contribute to colleagues’ professional development and to safe birth processes.

The application deadline is Sunday 22 November 2026. We expect to conduct interviews on Friday 27 November 2026 in week 48.

If you have questions about the position, you are welcome to contact Arianne Brandborg Nørhave, Deputy Chief Midwife at the Birth Department.
