About the job

We are in the fortunate situation that we currently recruit many new colleagues and, in connection with this, have an increased number of onboarding activities. We are therefore seeking a midwife for a combined position as onboarding midwife and on-call, in a fixed-term employment of 12 months.

Are you passionate about midwifery and would you like to help tailor the best start for our newly employed midwives, nurses and social and health care assistants (SSA) in our maternity, delivery and postnatal ward, then it might be you we are looking for at the Gynecology/Obstetrics Department at Zealand University Hospital.

We continually need new skilled and dedicated employees and, at the same time, we take pride in giving them a sustainable start to their working life with us, whether they are newly educated or come with experience. We seek to achieve this among other things through a recruitment process where we make an effort to match expectations regarding competencies, culture and results, and from the start create structure for competence development and career paths.

As onboarding midwife you, in collaboration with our deputy chief midwives, mentors and your onboarding midwife colleague, have the overall responsibility to plan the onboarding of our newly employed staff on the maternity, delivery and postnatal ward.

We want our new employees to feel quickly part of the work place and, at the same time, to be able to start their tasks safely and securely. Here you have an important role together with the other onboarding midwife.

Your position will be divided 40/60, where 40% is as onboarding midwife and 60% in the clinic. You have the opportunity to work in several departments; where the delivery department will be one of them. There is also the possibility of midwife consultation, where you – when relevant – can introduce new colleagues to taking on consultations here in the house.

You should expect that your shifts in the clinic are distributed around the clock and you will be scheduled to work every 3rd–4th weekend.

Onboarding midwives’ tasks include, among other things, to

  • Structure and plan an individualized introduction for the newly employed midwife/maternity nurse/SSA
  • Create security, be a culture bearer, and onboard the new colleague into the professional agenda
  • Initiate networking and professional goals
  • Assist in follow-up and reflection conversations
  • Support and provide feedback, including sparring and supervision that motivates and ensures learning
  • Create coherence between introduction programs and career development, in collaboration with the deputy chief midwives
  • Initiate teaching activities
  • Develop and maintain introduction materials
  • Contribute to other tasks that provide coherence in the department, e.g., publish a newsletter, be part of planning a theme day, etc.

Our profile as a university hospital and our size mean that your own professional competences in both normal birth and complicated birth are strengthened. We prioritise giving families and the midwife time and opportunity for continuity. As a department we are large enough for you to obtain specialist knowledge and small enough for you to become part of a community where you know your colleagues well. We know this creates both professional and personal security.

We can offer you

  • Strong professional field and a department where competence development has many forms, ranging from participation in courses and conferences, team training and weekly case reviews, as well as short teaching sessions in daily work
  • Focus on well-being with continuity and safe patient pathways
  • A good interdisciplinary work environment where collaboration is characterised by mutual respect and sparring
  • A workplace with a short path from ideas to testing, and where management is visible and close at hand
  • Shift planning with focus on the sustainable midwife life
  • An engaged and experienced onboarding midwife colleague who will help you get started well. You will be each other’s closest colleagues during your employment and tasks will be distributed and solved in a joint effort.

We wish that

  • You have an appreciative approach to learning
  • You are empathetic, listening and inclusive
  • You can maintain an overview for yourself and others
  • You are aware that you are a role model and culture bearer
  • You can switch between administrative and clinical tasks
  • You are an experienced clinician who also has the capacity to teach others during shifts

The position will be a basic function with an independent job description. As a rule, the position is 37 hours per week without the possibility of reduction of standard hours. The position is fixed-term for 12 months, with the possibility of extension.
