About the job

Would you like to be part of an exciting university environment where you can daily soak up specialist knowledge and sparring and just become more and more skilled? Would you like to join our fantastic team of interns and hospital veterinarians, who help each other both professionally and practically in a training setting?

Then an internship at the University Hospital for Small Animals might be something for you!

The position is a full-time, three-year contract. After two years, during which, in addition to clinical work, you have actively participated in journal clubs, workshops, morbidity & mortality rounds, etc., you will receive an internship certificate, which you can use to apply for a residency in Denmark or abroad. We expect you to be highly motivated and ambitious, and eager to invest time in your personal and professional development during your time with us. In return, we promise you a steep learning curve and the opportunity to become a truly skilled all-round veterinarian.

Your daily life at the hospital will be filled with many exciting acute patients at all hours of the day and night. You must be able to enjoy the unpredictability of not knowing what will come through the door. In addition to emergency medicine, you will have rotations in companion animal surgery and general medicine. Furthermore, you will work closely with the surgical, neurological, oncological, cardiological, internal medical, anesthetic, and diagnostic imaging departments. You will encounter many patients in the emergency department around the clock, where you will need your newly acquired knowledge.

The veterinary students and our veterinary nurses are involved in clinical work around the clock, so you must enjoy teaching them and supervising them in their clinical training.

Your schedule will include day, evening, and night shifts on weekdays, weekends, and holidays. On-call work outside normal hours accounts for about half of the working time. During shifts you will be responsible for both hospitalized and acutely incoming patients, and you will also receive acute referrals from colleagues in practice. You will always have the opportunity to discuss your patients by telephone with one of our on-duty specialists.

We expect you to have good collaboration skills and to be a team player with a high degree of flexibility, which is necessary, among other things, in the event of acute illness of a colleague in the team, where extra shifts must be allocated at short notice.

The employment requires Danish authorization as a veterinarian and is subject to the applicable collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Veterinary Association. It is an advantage if you have practice experience, especially with emergency work, but we would also very much like to hear from you without experience who think that the above description is exactly the starting point you want for your veterinary career.

Send your application with relevant attachments to us no later than December 20, 2026. Documentation of your veterinary authorization must be included. Only electronically received applications will be considered. Interviews will be held and positions filled continuously as they become available. If you have any further questions, you are welcome to contact Hospital Director Merete Holst Nissen at [email protected] .

We look forward to hearing from you!

[MN1] We will set the date as to when it can come up. It can be up to 8 weeks, right?
