Educator with an ear for language and an eye for play sought for Engtoften's middle group for the oldest nursery children

In Engtoften we are looking for a pedagogue who spots language in the middle of play. Someone who can hear what is at stake in children’s small and large conversations – and who wants to work with it together with both children and colleagues.

The position has a special function with a focus on language and play, and a salary supplement is provided.

You don’t need to sit with tests and forms alone. Instead you should want to be close to everyday life: on the floor, in play, in the relationships. This is where language lives. You will be attached to a fixed room, but with the possibility of sparring across the house.

Are you crazy about children who are busy, with big emotions, budding independence and an indomitable curiosity about the world? Can you see the pedagogical possibilities in both a snowsuit that teases, a conflict about a digger and an imaginative floor play?

A middle group with room for development

In Engtoften we have a middle group for the oldest toddlers, who spend about 4-6 months in the group before starting in kindergarten.

The middle group is an educational learning environment where we work purposefully to create a safe and developmental transition from nursery to kindergarten.

We have a particular focus on

Language: We support children’s language development through conversations, play, repetitions and present adults who label the world. We have opportunities for professional sparring and guidance from our speech therapist.

Play: We believe play is children’s most important development space. Therefore you must want to be on the floor, follow the children’s initiatives and contribute to creating inspiring play environments.

Relationships: We work with children’s budding communities, friendships and ability to notice one another. The adult is an active co-player who guides, supports and creates participation opportunities for all children.

Independence: We give children time, space and courage to try things themselves. It’s not about knowing everything, but about experiencing the joy and pride in mastering more and more.

Your role will include among other things to

• be curious about the ways children express themselves
• help open up the play so that more children can join
• share your view and approach with colleagues
• be in ongoing sparring with PPR, leadership and the rest of the house

We work with ICDP as a common starting point, and you will be trained in it if you are not already. Reflection, sparring and feedback are something we actively use as a way to become wiser together.

We have recently had supervision and received good feedback. Of course we are happy about that, but we are perhaps even more focused on what happens in daily life: how we are together with the children, and how we are together with each other.

Here it is fine to be in doubt. It is also fine to say it out loud. We do not expect finished answers – but we expect you to be willing to explore practice together with us.
