About the job

Would you like to learn how to care for some of the hospital's most complex patients and become part of a strong professional community? At the Intensive Care Unit at Bispebjerg Hospital we are looking for 2-3 nurses for educational positions with start on February 1, 2027. The positions are aimed at completing the specialist training in intensive care nursing.

Whether you are newly qualified or an experienced nurse, we offer a safe and structured learning program, where you gradually develop the competencies required to work with critically ill patients and their relatives.

With us you will meet patients in life-threatening situations, where you bring your entire nursing professionalism into play, from basic care to high-tech treatment. You will learn to act quickly and purposefully in acute situations – and at the same time meet distressed patients and relatives with calm, presence and compassion.

In intensive care, professionalism, ethics, technology and care are closely linked

"In intensive care you get the whole picture around the patient. The work spans the entire spectrum of nursing – from the basic to the acute and instrumental – and at the same time the emotional support for patients and relatives in difficult life situations. We often face ethical dilemmas and must be able to scale up and down in care and treatment." Lotte, intensive care nurse

About the Intensive Care Unit

The Intensive Care Unit is part of the Anesthesiology Department at Bispebjerg Hospital.

We are a strong, well-functioning, multidisciplinary staff group consisting of 85 nurses with up to 12 intensive care beds. We provide care and treatment of complex patients from among others the Pulmonary Medicine, Neurology, Cardiology, Gastroenterology and Acute Medicine specialties. Approximately 85% of the nurses in the unit are specially trained intensive care nurses, and we are a department where employees stay for a long time, and where helpfulness, learning and community are highly prioritized.

We are an active training ward where learning, supervision and professional development are integrated into daily life. You will become part of a community with experienced colleagues who prioritize sparring, feedback and support in your development.

For the fourth year in a row, we have been nominated for the Best Practice Site by the Danish Nursing Students’ National Association (SLS), reflecting our ambition to create a safe and inspiring learning environment.

With us you get

  • Systematic training and structured learning programs
  • Close collegial sparring and guidance
  • A strong multidisciplinary collaboration
  • High well-being and strong professional pride
  • Extensive collaboration with the entire hospital
  • Opportunity to develop within a highly specialized nursing field

We are looking for you, who

  • Are (newly) educated and have Danish authorisation
  • Are motivated for a longer and targeted educational program
  • Meet patients and relatives with care, curiosity and respect
  • Thrive with complex patient pathways and a high professional level
  • Contribute actively to a strong team collaboration
  • Wish to be part of a staff group characterized by community, engagement and solidarity

We are primarily looking for nurses who want to learn intensive care nursing. You do not need to know everything beforehand – we will help you develop the competencies.

There are two paths to becoming a specialist trained intensive care nurse

  • Direct educational position

If you have at least one year of clinical experience as a nurse from a somatic department, you can be appointed directly to a 3-year educational position in intensive care nursing.

  • Preparatory position for newly graduated

If you are a newly graduated nurse, you can be employed in a temporary preparatory position for up to 2 years in the unit. During this period you gain the necessary clinical experience and qualify for admission to a subsequent 3-year educational position in intensive care nursing.

Both forms of employment are temporary and conditional on you qualifying for and completing the education. After passing the specialist training, the educational employment ends, after which you can apply for a permanent position as a specialist trained intensive care nurse in the department.

In your application please highlight which of the two positions you are applying for.

The specialist training gives you the competencies to care for and treat critically ill patients and provides opportunities for further professional development within education, quality work, simulation and clinical supervision.

Working hours

The working hours are 32-37 hours, to be arranged in collaboration with you and taking into account both operation and learning. Your educational program is planned in close cooperation with the unit's educationally responsible nurse.

Salary according to the collective agreement 32.17.1 for non-managerial staff in the Health Sector.
