About the job

Do you want to help ensure that children's perspectives are taken into account when political decisions that affect their lives are made?

In the Danish Children’s Council (Børnerådet) we work to protect children's rights and to involve children in political decision-making processes. We are looking for an experienced child-involvement consultant with solid child-related knowledge and practical experience who can lead the development of our child involvement and set a strategic direction for how child involvement is integrated into the council's overall work.

Your tasks

Your main task will be to set the direction for child involvement work in the Children’s Council and translate this into concrete priorities, methods and workflows in close collaboration with the head of the secretariat and your colleagues.

You will ensure that children’s experiences and perspectives are systematically included in the council’s work – from choosing themes and planning participation processes to developing recommendations for politicians and authorities and communicating in the public debate.

You will also personally conduct participation processes with children and young people and use the experiences here to continuously develop our approach.

Your tasks will include, among others, to

  • Develop and drive a plan for how child involvement is integrated into the Children’s Council’s work.
  • Develop shared methods and workflows that ensure high child-salient quality and ethically sound involvement.
  • Plan and facilitate child panels, workshops, hearings and interviews that enable children of different ages, experiences and prerequisites to participate, including children in vulnerable and exposed situations.
  • Process and communicate children’s experiences and perspectives loyally and clearly so they can be included in the Children’s Council’s analyses, recommendations and political work.
  • Advise decision-makers, civil servants and partners on how children can be meaningfully involved in decision-making processes.
  • Build and maintain relevant collaborations and networks on child involvement nationally and internationally.

You will also be part of the secretariat’s joint knowledge work on children's rights and conditions in close collaboration with the other professional consultants.

Your qualifications

We are looking for an experienced and independent consultant who can combine strategic development with practical child involvement. You have:

  • A relevant education such as psychology or a professional bachelor's degree as social worker, teacher or educator with a relevant master’s degree.
  • Solid theoretical knowledge and practical experience with child involvement.
  • At least five years of relevant experience working with children, including facilitating groups and conversations, preferably also with children in vulnerable and exposed situations.
  • Experience with setting professional and strategic direction and translating it into practice in an organization.
  • Documented experience with project management and the ability to independently develop, lead and follow up on own projects. Experience with program management is a plus.
  • Familiarity with children's rights and the ethical and child-protective considerations that should underlie the involvement of children.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, preferably with experience in translating children’s perspectives and child-related knowledge into analyses, reports and opinion pieces, etc.
  • A good overview of the child sector and knowledge of child-policy agendas.

Personal

You thrive with responsibility and work independently and in a structured manner. You have an eye for both the details of each participation process and the link to the Children’s Council’s strategic goals.

You can establish a trusting relationship with children and young people and tailor your approach to their different needs and prerequisites.

You can engage colleagues and partners and create shared ownership of new methods and workflows.

You thrive in a smaller developing organization where we work closely across professional fields and help each other with tasks.

About the Children’s Council

The Children’s Council is a government advisory body that works to secure children's rights based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. We advise the government, the Parliament and other authorities on matters concerning children’s rights and conditions and speak up for children and young people in the public debate.

You will be employed in the Children’s Council secretariat, which consists of nine staff with child-related, legal, communicative and administrative competencies. As the secretariat, our task is to support the chairperson of the council and the other eight members. We do this in close cross-disciplinary collaboration, where sparring and joint task-solving are natural parts of our ways of working.

We are driven by our commitment to building a strong Children’s Council that stands on children’s rights and brings children’s voices into the public debate and communicates knowledge about their rights to children.

Conditions of employment

You are employed under the applicable collective agreement for academics in the state.

The appointment will, depending on qualifications and experience, be placed as a senior or chief consultant.

We expect you to be able to start on 1 December 2026

The workplace is Hovedgaden 12, 1D, 7190 Billund with the possibility of working from home. You should expect to be present at the office 2–3 days a week. In addition, periods of time may require presence in Copenhagen and other parts of the country.

Process and information

The application deadline is Tuesday, 20 October 2026, 12:00.

We expect to hold the first interview on Friday 23 October in Billund and possibly a second interview on Monday 26 October via Teams. If you want to know more about the position, you can contact the secretariat head Maja Olesen at tel. 33 78 33 03.

The Children’s Council encourages all interested persons regardless of age, gender, disability, religion and ethnic origin to apply for the position.
