Head of Department for the Authority Area in Children and Family

Slagelse Municipality is seeking a visionary department head for Children and Family with responsibility to lead and develop the authority area. You will have the overall responsibility for quality, professional development, economy and strategic direction in the efforts for children, youth and families.

You will become the head of the authority leaders and part of the overall center leadership across Children and Youth. Your task will be to translate the municipality’s ambitions for equity in opportunity into early interventions that make a real difference for children and young people.

At the same time you will play a central role in developing coherent interventions across the child, youth and adult areas, so that young people in vulnerable positions experience strong transitions and relevant support all the way to adult life.

As department head you create direction and momentum by connecting people and tasks, simplifying the complex, strengthening the value-creating and promoting development and collaboration. With a view to both professional quality and well-being, you ensure that the organization succeeds with its core task.

Your main tasks

• Management of 5 team leaders and support of their professional and organizational responsibilities
• Support the professional direction so inclusion and co-creation with children, youths and parents are strengthened
• Contribute to strengthening the collaboration with the general area and ensure holistic solutions
• Actively contribute to the organizational development of the department and across Slagelse Municipality
• To create a culture characterized by professionalism, curiosity and job satisfaction
• Financial management responsibility for the authority area, including budget control and prioritization of resources

About you

You

• have a relevant intermediate education, e.g., social worker/social facilitator
• have leadership experience, preferably with leadership of leaders and a leadership education at minimum diploma level
• have solid experience with the authorities work in the specialized child and youth area and strong competencies in cross-disciplinary collaboration
• thrive when the people around you succeed, and you have good relational skills
• have an understanding of financial management and can prioritize the resources available, strategically and responsibly
• are driven by working at the overall plan and connecting strategy with practice
• are clear in your communication and good at motivating and developing leaders

Organizational placement

Department Children and Family is one of four departments in Children and Youth. Children and Youth is undergoing a larger development process focusing on preventive and holistic interventions. You will be part of the center's management team and play a central role in translating competence development and ambitions into practice. In Children and Family there are about 100 employees in total, mainly authority advisers and a team of foster care and placement consultants.

Well-being and Development handles supportive interventions referred according to the Children’s Act for children and young people and runs a children and youth home.

Youth Unit is responsible for authority tasks and interventions for young people aged 18-30, educational guidance and the crime prevention effort (SSP work).

Children and Youth Secretariat supports managers and staff in all departments with development work, assists with administrative tasks and political service.

You will as department head report to the head of Children and Youth.

Terms of employment

The position is paid according to the applicable collective agreement with a salary placement at base pay 47 in the Danish Social Workers Association/HK agreement and there are added personal allowances, negotiated according to local pay formation rules, as well as pension.

Start on January 1, 2027 or as agreed.
