Head of Establishment Partner Element: Shooting and Training Areas

The Establishment and Terrain Command seeks a chief for the Establishment Partner Element Shooting and Exercise Areas (EPSKY).

As chief you will have overall responsibility for an organization that supports the Armed Forces' operative mission through the operation, development and maintenance of shooting ranges, firing ranges and terrain.

EPSKY is an organization in development. The tasks are growing in scope, complexity and importance, and we therefore seek a chief who can maintain safe and effective operations while the organization develops and is prepared for future requirements.

About the position

You will have the overall responsibility for the organization's

• strategic and operational leadership
• economy and resource prioritization
• operation and development of shooting ranges, firing ranges and terrain
• safety and quality in task execution
• work environment, well-being and personnel
• leadership and development of the organization's leaders
• collaboration with user units, authorities, suppliers and other partners
• continued organizational and professional development.

You will become chief of a geographically dispersed organization with around 90 employees, several management layers, three shooting range establishments, eight shooting and terrain areas and more than 50 firing ranges.

In total EPSKY handles tasks on more than 8,000 hectares.

It is therefore a position where you must be able to see both the big picture and the details – and where you must be able to move securely between strategic decisions, management of leaders and the reality encountered by employees and users at the facilities.

Your most important task

Your most important task is to ensure that EPSKY delivers the greatest possible effect for the Armed Forces and users within the given framework. This requires you to set a clear direction and create followership around it.

You must also ensure that the organization has the right competencies, structures and processes to solve both today’s and tomorrow’s tasks.

In other words, you must not only ensure operations – you must develop the organization while the operations continue to function.

EPSKY is moving from primarily being an operations organization to increasingly also being a development and capacity organization.

This calls for a chief who can think long term, prioritize hard, delegate clearly and create space for the organization’s leaders and employees to take responsibility themselves.

You become chief of leaders

A significant part of the job is leading 5 managers.

You must be able to create clear frameworks and expectations, give your leaders responsibility and at the same time be close enough to the organization to know when support, sparring or a clear decision is needed.

You must be able to stand firm when the situation requires it – but also be able to involve, listen and create solutions together with the organization.

We therefore place importance on a chief who exercises clear, trust-based and presence-based leadership.

It is not essential that you know all the details within firing ranges, terrain or establishment.

What matters is that you can lead a complex organization and quickly understand its professional reality.

The position entails considerable travel activity, as EPSKY’s employees and facilities are geographically dispersed. It is therefore advantageous if you have a driver's license.

Conditions of employment

You are employed under the applicable collective agreement in force at any given time.

Depending on your qualifications and competencies, there is a possibility for negotiating allowances. The position includes an employer-financed pension scheme.

The workplace is in Hjørring.

As an employee under the Ministry of Defence’s area, you are subject to certain special conditions. Among other things, you must be able to obtain a security clearance and maintain the clearance throughout your employment.

As an employee you are obliged to perform service outside the country, including at units in international operations with a view to participation in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peace-enforcing, humanitarian and other similar operations.

About the Establishment and Terrain Command (ETK)

ETK supports and serves military and civilian authorities under the Ministry of Defence. Our task is to deliver and develop attractive physical frameworks that are necessary for their daily work.

We build new, maintain, operate cafeterias and clean service locations across the country.

We are responsible for the green area on behalf of the Defence Command, including environment, energy and nature care.
