About the job

Do you have experience with resource center work, and are you passionate about creating overview and systematization in a school's special education efforts?

The School on Islands Brygge is seeking a leader who across the school's two campuses can weave together the threads for the resource center, guidance counselors, staff and special education interventions – and who, together with the principal, takes responsibility for the school's visitation process.

We are looking for a leader with a strong knack for coordination and a flair for systematic task management and operations, who can support and create direction, coherence and momentum as a central part of a unified leadership team characterized by high professionalism, collaboration and good energy.

About us

The School on Islands Brygge is one of the City of Copenhagen's large public schools with about 1,420 students spread across two campuses: an elementary school (from kindergarten to 5th grade) and a lower secondary (6th to 9th grade).

We work purposefully with inclusive learning environments and with creating good transitions for students – both internally in the school and in collaboration with day care and youth education.

With the City of Copenhagen's decision to delegate the visitation process to each individual school, we now need a leader who, among other things, can give us the overall overview of the school's initiatives and ensure a professionally solid and transparent visitation practice.

About the position

The position is on equal footing with the school's other department heads, but differs by spanning across both campuses – in other words, you will be responsible for the resource center and special education interventions across the entire school’s span from kindergarten to 9th grade in close collaboration with the department heads in the individual strands/departments.

Your central tasks will include, among other things

  • having personnel responsibility for and leading the school's inclusion- and transition-pedagogues
  • creating systematization and overview of the school's efforts – which students are involved, how many hours are allocated, and what form of interim support or assistance each student receives
  • maintaining the professional overview of – and – together with the principal – the responsibility for the school's visitation process, after this task has been moved from the municipality to the individual school
  • leading and developing the resource center as a joint focal point for the school's inclusive learning environments
  • ensuring coherence and knowledge sharing between guidance counselors, inclusion pedagogues and transition pedagogues across both the elementary school and the lower secondary
  • being responsible for collaboration with the municipal support regarding the special education interventions (e.g. PPR and other partners)

We imagine that you

  • have experience working with at-risk students, resource centers and are familiar with the professional and practical issues that accompany it
  • have a strong motivation for special education work and a belief in inclusive learning environments
  • are driven by systematization, structure and processes, and thrive on creating overview and order in complex cases across disciplines, campuses and partners – and are able to communicate that data and knowledge
  • have experience with or knowledge of visitation processes in the school sector – or are ready to thoroughly acquaint yourself with it
  • are a clear and trust-building leader who can provide direction to guidance counselors and pedagogues with very different tasks and employees in general
  • have a background as a teacher in primary school and preferably leadership experience

We offer

  • a central role in the school's leadership team with close collaboration with the principal, deputy principal and department heads at both campuses
  • a professionally strong environment with an engaged staff group characterized by great continuity and stability
  • good opportunities to influence how the school will organize its special education interventions and visitation process going forward

Employment terms

Salary and employment terms are set according to qualifications and current collective agreement. In connection with the appointment, we will obtain a child and safety clearance and take references. The position is full-time. Expected start date is 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.
