About the job

Are you interested in the assessment and treatment of acutely ill patients, and would you like to try your hand at cardiology? We would like to hear from you.

We have two introductory positions available for filling on January 1 and February 1, 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter.

As a major emergency hospital, Nordsjællands Hospital has a large catchment area. Here you will encounter a wide range of non-selected cardiology and internal medicine patients. You will work as a junior on-call, under close supervision by more experienced doctors and specialists. Each month an orientation is held for all newly employed doctors, and in addition there is ongoing teaching with new topics, Journal Club, presentation of instructive cases, and review of the latest treatment guidelines.

The department trains junior doctors in several different tracks, including KBU, HU-almen, introduction to internal medicine/cardiology and the main specialty training in cardiology. The latter takes place in close collaboration with the cardiology departments in Roskilde and at Rigshospitalet. You will actively participate in the department's teaching of younger colleagues, possibly as the main supervisor for KBU trainees.

The on-call structure (A/N) consists of a common on-call shift, with 7-8 junior doctors on the medical side, as well as a corresponding number of specialists on call within the various sub-specialties. As a junior on-call you will have on-call duties in the cardiology satellite unit/chest pain clinic, and through the shared on-call you will help manage other acute medical patients.

We therefore have close collaboration with ENA: Endocrinology and Nephrology, LIA: Pulmonology and Infectious Diseases, GAS: Gastroenterology, ÆMS: Department of Geriatrics and Multimorbidity, as well as the shared emergency department, FAM/Emergency Department.

During daytime there will be opportunities to perform ward rounds on cardiology patients and thus follow up the patients you have admitted to the chest pain clinic. In addition, there is a large outpatient activity including echocardiography and cardiac CT, as well as evaluation and follow-up of patients within the areas of ischemia, arrhythmia, heart failure and valvular heart disease. You will therefore be able to focus on the areas of cardiology that interest you.

The cardiology department at Nordsjællands Hospital is a dynamic department that places a high value on the training of junior doctors. Currently, a special onboarding program for new staff has been developed. In addition, there is early in the program a formal training in echocardiography by experienced junior doctors and several specialists, as well as workshops with opportunities for hands-on training. During employment there will also be an opportunity to participate in relevant courses, including financial support upon enrollment in the DCS courses, Echo I and Echo II.

Research is part of the training as a junior doctor, including for doctors in an introduction position to internal medicine/cardiology. The department has its own research activity and participates in several clinical studies. There will thus also be opportunities to try your hand at research if you wish.

The shift pattern is two-shift operation with on-site duty every day of the week. The shift is normally 8-shift. Working hours are from 08:00 to 18:00 and 17:45–09:15 as pre-shift, on-call, and senior on-call. In addition there is an extra doctor during peak periods, Mondays and Fridays, from 12:00-20:00. Daytime with ward rounds and outpatient functions is normally 08:00-15:00.

The introduction position qualifies for the main specialty training in the 9 internal medicine specialties.

The position is a full-time position. Salary and employment terms follow the agreement for junior doctors concluded between Yngre Læger and Regionernes Lønnings- og Takstnævn.

We expect that you have completed internship/KBU, with the right to work independently.

Interested individuals of any age, gender, religion, or ethnic background are encouraged to apply.

Applications must be received no later than Monday, 23 November 2026 at 12:00.

For further information you are welcome to contact the educationally responsible consultant, Dr. Rolf Steffensen, tel. 48296337, email [email protected], and/or chief physician, Niels Tønder, at tel. 48297339, email [email protected].

We look forward to hearing from you.
