Can you lure a gamer away from the screen?

Do you have initiative, patience and a desire to create cozy and meaningful activities together with a boy with autism and ADHD? Then this could be a pleasant task for you.

About the task

You will be a regular support for a boy with a sweet, dry sense of humor, who loves gaming and spending time in front of the screen. He can however also become absorbed in other things – for example he might dive into today’s Wordle in the New York Times.

An important part of your task is to help him move away from the screen and notice other activities that you can do together. It could be to play 500, Yahtzee or chess, go for a walk with the dog, bake rolls or cake, take a bike ride or handle small practical tasks such as emptying the dishwasher. Maybe you can also teach him how to play backgammon.

Gaming does not have to be completely banned. You can certainly play together from time to time, especially if it becomes a joint activity, or if you can introduce him to something new.

You take the initiative and have an eye for what could wake his interest, as it is largely you who initiates activities. At the same time you create clear and safe frameworks and prepare him for what you will do. In this way the time together becomes manageable and predictable.

About you

You are patient, proactive and good at creating contact in a calm and natural way. You can stand your ground in a friendly manner and motivate without pressuring. At the same time you want to be active and involved yourself – whether it concerns a game at the table, a bike ride, baking in the kitchen or a shared activity in front of the computer.

The most important thing is that you can create a good relationship and be the one who comes up with the ideas for what you can do together.

Shifts and working hours

The position is 8 hours per month. The working hours are

Every other Saturday or Sunday from 11:00 – 15:00 or 12:00 – 16:00.

The specific day is agreed with the family.

You will become part of a family-owned company with many dedicated employees. You have a fixed advisor whom you can always get guidance from. Outside the office hours there is always a staffed on-call phone, so you are never alone. Salary and pension in accordance with the National Collective Agreement between FOA and Danish Business. You are covered by DUOS’ liability and work injury insurance and health insurance is part of your pension scheme.
