Church caretaker wanted for Risskov Church

Do you have good practical handiwork, a service mindset, and a desire to be part of a vibrant church life? Then you may be the one we are looking for as our new church sexton at Risskov Church.

We are looking for a welcoming and engaged church sexton for a part-time position on average 19 hours per week with start on 1 January 2027.

As a church sexton you will be an important part of everyday life at Risskov Church and the parish house. Together with the church's current sexton, you will be responsible for a range of practical and service-oriented tasks that help create good settings for worship services, church rites, meetings and other activities.

You will become part of an engaged staff community where cooperation, flexibility and a positive approach to tasks are important values.

Your duties

You will take on a broad range of tasks in both the church and the parish house. Your primary tasks will include, among others:

• Assisting at worship services and church rites.
• Cleaning and tidying in the church and parish house.
• Preparation and setup for meetings, events and other activities, including making coffee and serving.
• Minor handyman tasks and ongoing practical maintenance.
• Possibly contribute to communication on social media and similar channels.

You will work closely with the church's current sexton. You will have a mutual on-call arrangement, and together you plan and coordinate the distribution of the workload.

• Are approachable and service-minded to everyone who comes to Risskov Church and parish house.
• Thrives in the role of one of the church's visible representatives and would like to contribute to giving visitors a good experience.
• Have practical handiwork and preferably experience with minor maintenance tasks.

Experience with communicating on social media would be an advantage, but is not a requirement.

Terms of employment and salary

Employment is covered by the Danish Unified Collective Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Public Employees Organization – The Civil Service Area (OAO-S unified agreement) as well as the organizational agreement between the Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs and the Association of Church and Cemetery Employees and the accompanying protocol for church sextons.

The annual salary is agreed within the range DKK 324,667 – 408,841. In addition, there is an annual on-call allowance of DKK 33,230 and an OK allowance of DKK 1,400. Employer-paid pension is also provided.

All amounts are stated in current kroner and correspond to the annual salary for a full-time position. Salary and allowances are paid pro rata according to the position’s employment fraction of 19/37.

Current civil servant church sextons have the right to retain their civil servant status upon appointment with direct transfer. In that case, the position must be classified.

There is a mandatory training associated with the position of church sexton. The training must be completed within the first two years of employment.

There is a three-month probationary period, and a background check will be conducted.
