About the job

  • based in Kristkirken

Full-time position Do you thrive with shifting working hours – including evenings and weekends – and with a wide variety of tasks? And do you take pride in creating order, good frameworks and a warm welcome for everyone who steps through the door?

Then you might be our new church sexton in the Church of Denmark, Vesterbro, based in Kristkirken!

About the place

Kristkirken is a lively house with many families, confirmands and daily visitors. As a church sexton you will often meet children and parents in everyday life, but you will not be responsible for the content of church activities or teaching. Your role is to create safe, practical and welcoming surroundings around the life of the church.

Your responsibilities will include, among other things

  • cleaning, tidying up and ongoing practical operations
  • preparation and involvement in services, religious ceremonies and events
  • purchasing and supply of goods
  • contact with users, volunteers and partners
  • to warmly welcome guests – including those who just “pop by”

We are looking for a colleague who

  • thrives in a house with many people where everyday life is rarely the same
  • takes pride in practical work – including cleaning, preparation and tidying up
  • is accommodating and can be the church’s face outward towards guests, volunteers and partners
  • speaks at eye level with both small and large
  • works independently and has a sense of what needs to be done – even before others see it
  • can coordinate tasks with colleagues and volunteers
  • has situational awareness and knows when a conversation should be referred to a priest
  • meets others with respect – even when it is busy
  • thrives with roughly half of the working time consisting of cleaning.

We place emphasis on your personal and social competencies. Your educational background is less important. If you already have training as a church sexton, that is a plus.

We can offer

  • good colleagues and a daily life characterized by cooperation, commitment and shared responsibility
  • a workplace where your practical work helps create well-functioning frameworks for the house’s activities
  • a presence from everyday management, employed for the task and available all days of the week
  • focus on work-life balance, including the possibility to adapt working hours to special needs
  • a large and diverse church workplace with a varied daily life, many collaboration points and tasks close to people

Do you want to be part of an engaged community where practical sense, hospitality and collaboration make a difference every day? Then we look forward to hearing from you.

Working hours

There are shifting working hours, announced about 30 days in advance. You are largely expected to organize your tasks and working time around the activities you participate in.

  • Fixed weekly day off on Friday (can possibly be arranged to another weekday)
  • One additional flexible day off per week, which can be moved to other weeks
  • Around every 4 weeks two flexible days off can be consolidated into a continuous Saturday–Sunday

Example for four weeks

  • Week 1: Free Thursday and Friday
  • Week 2: Free Friday
  • Week 3: Free Thursday and Friday
  • Week 4: Free Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Salary and employment terms

The working hours amount to an average of 37 hours per week.

Employment is in accordance with the Central Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and CO10 and the Organizational Agreement between the Ministry of Church Affairs and CO10. The annual salary is agreed within the range of DKK 255,000 – 321,112 in base terms as of 31 March 2012. In addition there is an OK18 allowance of DKK 1,100 and a dedicated allowance of DKK 26,100 in base terms as of 31 March 2012. In current kronor that corresponds to a total annual salary in the range of DKK 359,298.17 – 442,013.40 as of 1 August 2026 for a full-time position. The agreements can be seen at www.folkekirkenspersonale.dk.

Current civil servant church sextons can retain their civil service status when employed with a direct transition. In that case a classification of the position must take place.

A child-safety check will be obtained in connection with the employment.
