About the job

Teacher for maternity leave substitute in the special department at Skjoldhøjskolen

Do you thrive on creating strong learning communities for students with special needs? Do you have major subject expertise in mathematics and English, and are you motivated to make a difference for children who need clear and present adults? Then you might be the one we are looking for to our special department at Skjoldhøjskolen.

About the job

We are seeking a teacher for a maternity leave substitute position with a start date of 1 December 2026.

The position is located in our special department for 3rd and 8th grade, where you will be attached to two special classes. Your primary teaching subjects will be mathematics, English and HD.

In the special department we work purposefully to create participation opportunities, learning and well-being for pupils with specific and general learning difficulties, ADHD and autism. Our students need clear structures, safe relationships and teaching that builds on their individual prerequisites and potential.

Your profile

We expect you to be an engaged and professionally ambitious teacher who is passionate about teaching and developing all students' learning opportunities.

We emphasise that you

  • see potential rather than limitations in children and young people
  • work systematically with classroom management, structure and pre-understanding
  • can set clear learning targets and evaluate the effect of your teaching on the basis of data
  • have experience with or an interest in special pedagogical interventions
  • can create recognisability, predictability and safe learning environments
  • work in an appreciative and relationally competent way
  • can handle conflicts professionally and calmly

Experience with the target group is an important prerequisite. We work from the Low Arousal approach, and conflict management will therefore be a natural part of your daily life.

Why you should choose us

At Skjoldhøjskolen we have 18 general classes and 13 special classes with about 460 pupils in total.

We are a school where the general and special education areas are closely integrated. Many staff teach across departments, and our classes are door-to-door. Therefore you will become part of a unified school community with strong professional relationships.

Together with colleagues, leadership, pupils and parents you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of a school where both learning and well-being are in focus.

We have a special focus on strengthening professional collaboration through collective mastery. You will be part of a team where we develop teaching together, investigate the effect of our

practice and are curious about both our own and colleagues' professionalism. We practice every day to make each other better.

We meet pupils who are open, positive and full of possibilities. At the same time we meet pupils who need clear adults who will act for and with them. It is precisely here that we succeed best.

Salary and employment terms

Employment occurs in accordance with the current agreement for teachers.
