NK Care / BPA Service is seeking care assistants for a young man with muscular dystrophy

We are looking for a disability assistant for a young man who lives at home. The young man has written a description of the job and a little about himself.

A little about me

I am a 24-year-old young man from Aalborg, studying biology at Aalborg University. I am especially interested in biology, history and natural sciences. In addition, I really enjoy playing computer games and watching movies and series with my friends, whom I sometimes also take to the cinema with me. I also like going for walks and getting out in the fresh air. Here I switch between sitting in a wheelchair and walking with crutches as part of my training.

I am described as humorous and easy to talk to; I am interested in world affairs—politics, etc.

I need help with most practical and personal tasks because I have muscular dystrophy. Therefore I walk with crutches and sit in a wheelchair.

Therefore you must have a car and a valid B driver's license, as I need to be chauffeured to and from the university, hospital, physiotherapist and others.

My days can vary a lot and depend on how I am feeling due to my illness.

More concretely what the job entails

As a helper, your tasks will include, among other things, the following

• Helping with household, practical duties and personal things.
• Driving me from destination to destination.
• Groceries.
• Accompanying me wherever we need to go.
• Cleaning
• Cooking.
• Laundry.
• Assisting with fine motor tasks.
• Possibly taking responsibility for sterile procedures regarding connection to saline water, nutrition therapy and other care tasks, including changing dressings and administering blood-thinning medications. It is not required that you possess nursing competencies, as you will be trained in this.
• Due to sterile procedures with connect/disconnect to my central venous catheter several times a day, it is important to have a strong focus on cleaning and hygiene, which will therefore be important in your work.

I currently reside temporarily with my father in 9000 Aalborg in Hasseris until later this year when I move into my own home near Aalborg University, Aalborg Ø. My apartment in Aalborg Ø is 95 m2 and is on the ground floor with postal code 9220.

So far the position is 24 hours per week for you, distributed over 12-hour shifts. Currently, only day shifts are available, but since I am seeking extra funding for assistance hours, there may be more hours available and this may include night shifts. So there may be 24-hour shifts available.

I am looking for an assistant who

• Is between 25 and 50 years old
• Is prepared to be trained in nursing tasks
• &; Has a car and a valid B driving license
• Is easy to wake at night and can help calmly and responsibly
• Is a non-smoker
• Is flexible and can step in when there is illness
• Has good situational awareness
• Is a fast learner and curious about learning new things
• Has a cheerful and positive mindset
