Operations Coordinator sought for a newly created position at Hjortholm Children and Youth Home for placed children

Hjortholm is seeking an operations coordinator with an overview, a solution-oriented mindset, financial understanding, good communication skills and hands-on, properly tightened together.

Organization

Hjortholm is a 24‑hour institution for placed children and young people with complex social and family conditions, aged 1-17 years. Since 1833, we have been located in Fuglebjerg, in scenic surroundings, on the road between Slagelse and Næstved. Hjortholm has a large building stock and 53 hectares of land, of which about 43 hectares is farmland under a lease agreement.

The environment is informal with plenty of room. We currently have 40 children and young people who are at once challenging, challenged and most of all wonderful, distributed in the Siblings houses, study groups and an internal school. The operations coordinator will be part of TAP (technical administrative staff) and have interfaces and daily contact with children, youths and staff.

Task

As an operations coordinator you will be responsible for Hjortholm’s “Road & Park,” which is Hjortholm’s internal janitorial and gardening team. The task is to plan and facilitate Hjortholm’s operations and maintenance plan, in collaboration with Hjortholm’s external building advisers, thereby also facilitating projects. In addition, there is general operation and maintenance, such as repairs and ad hoc tasks of both outdoor areas and indoor facilities, operational buildings, internal school, living groups, our own pool, as well as garden and park facilities.

Hjortholm has an operations and maintenance plan, which you as operations coordinator must ensure progress of. You will help assemble a team with a gardener and janitor/tradesman, so that you, as a team, have broad professional competence to carry out the tasks and safeguard Hjortholm’s areas and building stock for the coming many decades.

We are seeking an operations coordinator who has good social and pedagogical abilities, as Hjortholm’s children and young people are curious and like to talk. There may also be older children who need to have small, structured practical courses.

Examples of tasks

• Operations and maintenance of technical installations and heating plant.
• Interior and exterior repairs.
• Maintenance of workshops and Hjortholm’s own contracting equipment
• Overview of and responsibility for the execution of the operations and maintenance plan
• Maintenance of outdoor areas year-round, including snow removal
• Contact with external suppliers
• Work distribution, annual cycle and coordination of the team in “Road & Park”
• Participation in condition assessments and departmental meetings.
• Focus on follow-up and quality assurance
• Various ad hoc tasks.

Profile

Hjortholm desires an operations coordinator whose social qualifications are as strong as the technical and craft-oriented ones.

You must be able to lead vertically and will report to a designated leader from management with whom you have close contact. You are expected to be proactive with your knowledge and ideas, while ensuring the operations/development plan is followed.

You are educated

We imagine that the new operations coordinator has one of the following professional backgrounds.

• Building designer with a craft background and preferably experience in facility management
• Property service technician
• Craftsman with experience as contractor or self-employed
