With us you will encounter a diverse anesthesiology daily life with both elective and acute procedures, intensive therapy, obstetrics, regional anesthesia and prehospital treatment. We are a department with high professionalism, a strong educational environment and an ambition that it should be professionally challenging and pleasant to go to work.

We have a particular interest in strengthening our profile within pediatric anesthesia, but pediatric anesthesia is not a prerequisite for applying. If you have another professional area of interest that you would like to develop together with us, we would also love to hear from you.

A special opportunity within pediatric anesthesia

If you have experience with or a particular interest in pediatric anesthesia, we offer good opportunities for further specialization and professional responsibility.

A completed SSAI in pediatric anesthesia would be an advantage, but it is not a requirement. For the right candidate we can support an ongoing SSAI training or provide the opportunity to start it. In the longer term there may also be opportunities for professional responsibility and a leadership role around our pediatric anesthesia.

Our pediatric team currently consists of seven senior consultants with extensive experience. We want to both preserve this experience and add new competencies to the team. The pediatric team can be called in for acute situations for additional remuneration.

Who are we?

OPIN is a department with around 300 staff. The medical group consists of 26 specialists and approximately 12 trainee doctors, including 4th-year main training doctors as well as intro- and post-intro doctors.

OPIN includes operating theatres, anesthesia, day surgery, intensive care, fluoroscopy and recovery units as well as a central sterilization department.

We provide anesthesia for the following specialties: Orthopedic surgery, breast and organ surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, urology, regional specialty care and vascular surgery. Annually we perform about 14,000 anesthesias, in addition about 6,000 in regional anesthesia.

In the Intensive Care unit we have staffing for eight beds and about 800 admissions annually. In 2024 we opened a new intensive care unit and a new central sterilization department.

The emergency medical helicopter in Viborg is fully integrated into the department, and prehospital treatment is thus a natural part of our tasks.

What is daily life like?

As a senior consultant with us you will use many aspects of the anesthesiology specialty – from the operating room and the maternity ward to the acutely ill and critically ill patient in the Emergency Department or in the Intensive Care Unit.

We have a flat structure and value helping each other – both during daytime and on call.

You will participate in on-site duties at the hospital, which in 2025 were strengthened with full on-site presence of the on-call supervisor, on-call backup (HU doctor/department doctor) and the senior consultant. In addition, you will participate in prehospital duties on the emergency medical helicopter.

We have a flexible schedule with a preferred plan.

We do not expect that you can do everything from day one. Instead, we expect you to take responsibility, contribute constructively and have a desire to develop both yourself, your colleagues and the department.

Salary and employment terms

The position is generally a full-time position of 37 hours per week with regular duty and on-call at the service location. Salary and employment terms follow the applicable collective agreement.

With reference to the Child Certificate Act in connection with the employment of staff etc., a child certificate will be obtained in connection with any employment.

The employment is with Region Midtjylland with service at Hospital Unit Midt, Operation and Intensive.
